Culver Academies: Winner
This is a dream draw for Culver who already looks like they could be a sleeper in 3A coming out of the northside of the bracket. They got the bye game they wanted and then John Glenn vs. Jimtown is the game they will get their first opposition out of. With all of that, they will only have to face one of South Bend St. Joseph’s, New Prairie, and Mishawaka Marian.
Peru: Winner
As if the Maconaquah Sectional was easy enough, Peru fell into a scenario where they could face two teams before the final game who has less wins combined than Peru does. Then, if for some reason they get really lucky and face Maconaquah in the final, that is already one team they have shown the capability to beat this season.
Angola: Winner
Angola got really lucky with this draw. They drew 3-win Concordia to start, a team they did lose to but is easily the lesser team in this matchup. Then they get 4-win Garrett while New Haven and Dwenger and Leo beat up on themselves on the top half of the Sectional.
Hamilton Heights: Winner
In order to win this Sectional, Heights knows they are going to have to beat a couple good teams. However, they drew 1-win Blackford in the first round and in the second round, they face a solid Delta team that they have already beaten this season. Tipton and Marion are the two teams they really don’t want to face and luckily they will take each other out in the first round on the top half of the bracket.
Fort Wayne Dwenger: Loser
Dwenger is known for having a chance to win the Sectional, no matter what their regular season record is. However, this will be a tough task. Now, they are 3-0 against New Haven, Leo, and Concordia so they have the wins but they will have to start all over again with Leo, then New Haven, and if they get to the final it could be Angola.
Brebeuf Jesuit: Loser
Right now, one of the biggest losers of the draw in 3A is Brebeuf Jesuit. They knew they could have a few different scenarios where they wouldn’t have to face both Manual and Crispus Attucks. Now, it is almost a foregone conclusion with Attucks facing winless Herron in the second round. It isn’t impossible, especially when they have homecourt advantage, but it isn’t going to be easy.
Jasper: Loser
In one of the more unbalanced Sectionals in 3A, Jasper seems to get the short end of the stick. All the best teams all got put on the top end of the bracket and Jasper gets the one team they lost to in this Sectional in Washington, a team that is on a roll to end the season winning 13 of their last 14 games. To make matters worse, if they win, they get to face Pike Central, a team they beat but only by four points.
Gibson Southern: Loser
It hasn’t been since 2009-10 that Gibson Southern has won a Sectional game. Now, they have to face a very tough Evansville Bosse team in the first round. Not that it can’t be done but they did just go to the State Finals last year. Then they will get a solid Evansville Memorial team that played them tough earlier in the season. Not the kind of draw you were hoping for when you were looking to break out of the streak.
