Continue ReadingOn Sunday, the IHSAA had their Sectional Draw for the upcoming State Tournament. Now, it is time to dive into each Sectional in the state. We continue on with our look at each in our Regional breakdown.
Sectional 45: South Ripley (Host): Austin, Milan, North Decatur, South Ripley, Southwestern (Hanover), Switzerland County.
Breakdown: In Sectional 45, you have one of the more balanced and competitive Sectionals in 2A. The worst team has 7 wins and the best teams has just 13. Any team could conceivably with this Sectional. The team with the worst record against Sectional opponents is Southwestern (1-4) but they also have the second most wins with 12. This is one where matchups and style will matter a ton and no game will be a foregone conclusion. If one team does have the edge, it is Switzerland County with a 3-1 record against Sectional opponents and 13-8 record overall.
Sectional 46: Crawford County (Host): Clarksville, Crawford County, Eastern (Pekin), Henryville, Paoli, Providence.
Breakdown: In Sectional 46, you have the toughest Sectional in 2A and it is actually better than some 3A Sectionals. You have two teams with 19 wins in Providence and Henryville and they got matched up right out of the gate. The winner should have a leg up on the rest of the Sectional but Paoli and Crawford County are tough as well. The easiest road is with Crawford County to win the Sectional but it would require a win against Clarksville likely and then one of Henryville, Providence, or Paoli. Tough whatever way you slice it.
Sectional 47: Eastern Greene (Host): Barr-Reeve, Eastern Greene, Linton-Stockton, Mitchell, North Knox, South Knox.
Breakdown: In Sectional 47, you have one of the toughest Sectionals year in and year out. Barr-Reeve is always a scary team to see in 2A and Linton-Stockton gets them first. Linton Stockton lost by 7 to them earlier in the season but they know what they are getting into and they have a shot. On the opposite side, you have Eastern Green and South Knox paired up in the other first round game. Whoever makes it out of the first games will get a much easier semifinal matchup before the big showdown in the Sectional Final. Past results say Barr-Reeve is the likely winner but it won’t be easy.
Sectional 48: Southridge (Host): Evansville Mater Dei, Forest Park, North Posey, Perry Central, South Spencer, Tell City.
Breakdown: In Sectional 48, you have another very limited difference between the best team and the worst team in the Sectional. Forest Park has been impressive this season racking up 14 wins but North Posey has done very well against Sectional opponents going 4-1 with their only loss to Mater Dei. Outside of maybe South Spencer and Perry Central, any of the other teams could win and it would be a big shock. Look for North Posey to have a good chance if they can get past Mater Dei in the first game.
