Continue ReadingOn Sunday, the IHSAA had their Sectional Draw for the upcoming State Tournament. Now, it is time to dive into each Sectional in the state. We continue on with our look at each in our Regional breakdown.
Sectional 33: Gary Roosevelt (Host): Boone Grove, Gary Roosevelt, Hammond Bishop Noll, Lake Station Edison, River Forest, Whiting.
Breakdown: In Sectional 33, you have a Sectional that looks like upsets. Hammond Noll has a bottom tier record in the Sectional but they have played the hardest schedule and are 3-0 against Sectional opponents. River Forest is 17-5 and gets the bye game with the toughest first opponent as Whiting, a team they have already beaten this season. Gary Roosevelt is also a team with a very tough schedule and has 12 wins on the season. A very wide open Sectional with no clear leader.
Sectional 34: Winamac Community (Host): Delphi Community, Hebron, Knox, Marquette Catholic, North Judson-San Pierre, North Newton, Winamac Community.
Breakdown: In Sectional 34, you have a pretty balanced draw with some really solid teams, all capable of making a run past Sectionals. There are five teams with double-digit wins. Marquette Catholic and Winamac are two of the better teams in this Sectional and could meet up in the semifinal. Hebron (16-7) looks to have drawn the best as they get Delphi in the first round with North Judson waiting. Marquette has won the Sectional the last three years but there is a possibility that isn’t the case this year.
Sectional 35: Westview (Host): Bremen, Central Noble, Fremont, LaVille, Prairie Heights, Westview, Whitko.
Breakdown: In Sectional 35, Westview comes in with the best record and a 3-0 sweep of Sectional opponents. However, they have competition as Whitko, LaVille, Fremont, and Central Noble all have double-digit wins. This was an unbalanced draw, though, as all of those teams are on the top half of the bracket other than LaVille. LaVille also got the bye. Expect them to have a good shot as they don’t have to wade through all of the tough strength of the Sectional on the top half.
Sectional 36: Woodlan (Host): Adams Central, Bluffton, Churubusco, Eastside, Fort Wayne Canterbury, South Adams, Woodlan.
Breakdown: In Sectional 36, Churubusco and Eastside look like the top contenders for the Sectional but Woodlan and South Adams could be in contention as well. Churubusco has wins over Eastside and Woodlan but South Adams was successful in beating them in mid February. Those two meet up again in the first game of the Sectional and could be one of the best games. Eastside looks like the best bet to emerge, though.
