2A is wide open unless you have Emery in your bracket. Emery has been the favorite since day 1 and will be the favorite to win the 2A Championship this year. The Spartans have been overwhelming teams that want to run with them and grinding out victories with teams that want to slow them down.

2A Rankings

  1. Emery– Any loss at this point will be a major upset. Bowdie Jacobsen, Koby Butler and Zac Jorgensen are a deadly trio as they average 42 points per game.
  2. South Sevier– Biggest surprise in 2A led by Caleb Barton, Tyson Chisholm and Brodee Tebbs. The Rams are on a 10 game winning streak which is the largest in 2A.
  3. North Summit– New coach but same hard-nose mentality. They will beat you up and grind out a victory at all cost.
  4. Layton Christian– Only has one players scoring in double figures in Christians Gutierrez will have to coin flip for a #1 or #2 seed with Waterford.
  5. Waterford– The Ravens might be peaking at the right time. They will need big time games from Xander Priskos, Jackson Sponaugle and Parker Law if they want to make a deep run.

Contenders

South Summit could be a tough out especially against a weak Region 13. The Wildcats have been shooting the ball better as of late. Enterprise, has a trio that could be hard to stop. Grand’s weak schedule could be a factor in the playoffs. Summit Academy will need a lot of things to go right in order for them to return to defend their title.

BIG TIME GAME

San Juan vs. Layton Christian

Do the Eagles have anyone that can stop Blake Jordan? This year he has only been help to single digit scoring once in a game he likely only played a half.

Good luck to every team left in the playoff race. We hope that this years tournament will live up to last years.
