Continue ReadingOn Sunday, the IHSAA had their Sectional Draw for the upcoming State Tournament. Now, it is time to dive into each Sectional in the state. We continue on with our look at each in our Regional breakdown.
Sectional 49: Kouts (Host): 21st Century, Hammond Science & Technology, Kouts, LaCrosse, Morgan Township, Washington Township, Westville.
Breakdown: In Sectional 49, Gary 21st was really good last season but they lost their top player to Northern Illinois. However, they have 13 wins on the season and are looking pretty solid as a competitor in this Sectional. However, Westville is 16-6 and got a much easier draw. They also have five wins against this Sectional. The problem is one of their losses is to Gary 21st. If that is the matchup in the Championship game, the edge goes to Gary.
Sectional 50: Caston (Host): Caston, Covenant Christian (DeMotte), North White, Pioneer, South Newton, Tri-County, West Central.
Breakdown: In Sectional 50, you have one of the surprise teams in 1A this season in Tri-County. They are sitting at 20-2 and have gone 4-0 against Sectional opponents. Pioneer and South Newton are solid as well but they would have to meet up with each other in the second round. Tri-County got the first round bye game and would likely have to face Covenant Christian first, a team they beat 69-18 earlier this season. This should be a nice path for them to get to the Championship game with ease.
Sectional 51: Triton (Host): Argos, Culver Community, North Miami, Oregon-Davis, South Bend Career Academy, South Central (Union Mills), Triton.
Breakdown: In Sectional 51, you have four teams with double-digit wins this season with Oregon-Davis and Triton at the top. This draw has put them on opposite sides with the next best two teams being split up as well. It ended up very balanced. This won’t be an easy road for any team as the worst record is 7-16. This is a Sectional where you could see a bunch of upsets and a surprise winner.
Sectional 52: Bethany Christian (Host): Bethany Christian, Elkhart Christian Academy, Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian, Hamilton, Lakeland Christian, Lakewood Park Christian.
Breakdown: In Sectional 52, the best two teams in this Sectional are Blackhawk Christian and Lakewood Park. They are on opposite sides and have played really tough schedules this season so their records aren’t as clean as others would believe. However, they are built to win in March and it is unfortunate that they will only see one go beyond Saturday. Will make for one of the best Sectional Championship games in the state if they both get as far as they should.
