Westville: Winner
Westville is having a tremendous season and it just got a bit better after the draw. They have lost to two Sectional opponents this season, Gary 21st Century and Washington Township. Both are on the opposite side meaning they at most will only see one of them. On their side, it is even better news as they face 10-win Kouts in the first round with either 4-win LaCrosse or 1-win Hammond Science & Tech.
Tri-County: Winner
So, 20-win Tri-County just got the bye game and won’t have to play Pioneer or South Newton until Saturday. Not only that, they will only play one of them which makes their life even easier. Covenant Christian looks to be the first team they would face but they already beat them this season, 69-18.
Lafayette Central Catholic: Winner
Central Catholic wins this Sectional a lot. And now they could walk into the Championship game with the only having to face, most likely, Clinton Central. Now, Clinton Prairie, an 18-win team, is likely to meet them there but they already 20-balled them this season. Central Catholic doesn’t play 1A teams hardly ever, because they never lose to them.
Northeast Dubois: Winner
Dubois hasn’t had their best season but certainly is setup now to be in contention for a Sectional Championship. They drew 2-win Cannelton to start with a team they have already beaten in Tecumseh. The two teams in this Sectional they did lose to are Springs Valley and Wood Memorial who are playing each other in the first round on the opposite side. It could be an easier path than to Saturday than they probably expected.
Bloomfield: Loser
Now, I don’t think Bloomfield really thought they were going to go far this season in the tournament as they lost a lot from last season and they only have 10 wins this year. However, a Sectional Championship was still plausible. However, their draw against Clay City in the first round with 13-win Shakamak waiting has to hurt. All the other teams on the other side of the bracket have less wins that the worst team on their own.
Indianapolis Arlington: Loser
With two teams with single-digit wins, Arlington was hoping for an easier opening game than against Central Christian. Central is really good and they have enough offense they could repay Arlington for that narrow early season defeat. After that, 9-11 Indianapolis Lutheran will be waiting and then likely Morristown in the final. Arlington beat Central Christian and Morristown but not so badly that they couldn’t repay the favor.
New Washington: Loser
This is a terrible draw for New Washington who I’m sure was thinking about a deep run this March. Now, that may still happen but they already got beat pretty bad by Rock Creek this year and they play them first. Waiting is Lanesville who is probably a lot better than their 11-11 record would suggest. The Sectional final seems easier than their first two games but getting there is always tough.
