MVP: Lavar Batts-VCU is getting a good one in Batts. He scored 25 points and dished out 10 assists for Jay M. Robinson HS in the win. He was at his best when attacking the basket and either getting fouled or making the difficult shot. He had a good first half shooting the ball, knocking down three long balls. He has 16 points at the half.
Defensive MVP: Jamare Roberts-The 6-foot-7 Roberts was a force inside with his length and shot altering ability. He grabbed a lot of rebounds and controlled the paint.
North Buncombe MVP: David Elkins-In his last game, the smooth scoring guard had 19 points on a variety of scoring. He penetrated the paint, he shot the ball well from deep, he made a lot of tough passes look easy.
Best Rebounder: Jamare Roberts-The senior grabbed 13 rebounds to go along with 11 points on the night including a nice two-handed jam as the game was getting away.
Best Sophomore: Ren Dyer-A 6-foot-3 sophomore, Dyer had 19 points and was a big key in a 2nd quarter run for North Buncombe as he scored 11 points.
Best Shooter: Jason White-A great scoring option for The Bulldogs. White knocked down three crucial 3-point baskets. He has a high-release and great form.
Underclassman to Watch: Vi’chon Means-The 6-foot-1 sophomore guard is athletic, gets off the floor quick and can finish at the rim. Scored 12 points on the night.
Whats Next: Jay M. Robinson HS advances to the 3rd round of the NCHSAA 3-A state playoffs and will take on Weddington HS in the 3rd round.
Best Mid-Range Game: Ethan Greene-The senior was impressive knocking down mid-range jumper after mid-range jumper. He showed a nice touch from 15-feet out.
