MVP | CHRIS LYKES | GONZAGA ‘17
Chris Lykes was the most impactful player in this game on both ends of the court. The Miami commit certainly showed why he is deserving of the WCAC Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season.
BEST PLAY
Lykes went baseline and hung in the air long enough to do a 360 before laying it in. This sensational play happened in the first quarter, and gave Gonzaga plenty of momentum as they built an early lead.
BEST OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | CHRIS LYKES | GONZAGA ‘17
Lykes was the game’s leading scorer with 20 PTS. He shot 8 of 12 from the field, and hit both of this threes. He was also 2 of 2 from the foul line.
BEST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | CHRIS LYKES | GONZAGA ‘17
Lykes recorded at least two deflections, and drew a charge. The uber-quick floor general also led his team with four steals, and did a great job putting pressure on PVI in the open floor.
BEST UNDER-THE-RADAR PERFORMANCE | BRANDON SLATER | PAUL VI ‘18
Despite the loss, Brandon Slater played his butt off. The high energy 6’6 guard used his length to his advantage, and recorded a game high 3 deflections and 5 steals. Slater’s shot wasn’t falling quite like it normally does, but he pulled down 9 rebounds (6 offensive). He scored 15 PTS on 5/12 FG and 4 of 5 from the foul line.
BEST REBOUNDER | PRENTISS HUBB | GONZAGA ‘18
Prentiss Hubb was arguably the best rebounder of the tournament, and averaged a double-double throughout the final four. The long & lanky 6’3 guard pulled down 9 rebounds in the championship game.
BEST INTANGIBLES | MYLES DREAD | GONZAGA ‘18
Myles Dread is a tremendous teammate. A true student of the game, Dread possesses a commendable basketball IQ to go along with an unselfish attitude. Penn State is getting a great all-around player, and a flat-out winner.
BEST PASSER | MYLES DREAD | GONZAGA ‘18
Dread dished out four assists, and did so within the flow of the offense. He understands how to thread the needle, and doesn’t necessarily force the issue.
BEST CATCH AND SHOOT GUY | MYLES DREAD | GONZAGA ‘18
Dread hit 3 of 7 from deep, but one of those attempts was a half-court heave to beat the haltfime buzzer. The 6’5 guard was once again on point from deep, and made PVI pay to the tune of 15 PTS
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | TERRANCE WILLIAMS | GONZAGA ‘20
Terrance Williams does nothing but work, and work extremely hard. The talented 6’7 freshman hauled in 8 rebounds in a game where the battle of the boards was absolutely crucial.
