Zyan Collins leads his team in every statistical category, and tonight was no different as he propelled his team to a monumental win. The versatile lead guard was without question the most impactful two-way player in this game.
BEST OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | DOM FRAGALA | CHAMPE ’17
28 points in 27 minutes on 22 shots would be close to a career night for most, but it was just business as usual for Dom Fragala. The state’s leading scorer was plagued by foul trouble, but didn’t let that disturb him.
BEST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | ZYAN COLLINS | FREEDOM ’18
Collins recorded a game-high 5 steals. He rebounds very well for his position, and does a nice job quickly converting turnovers into points.
BEST UNDER-THE-RADAR PERFORMANCE | HUNTER OAKFORD | FREEDOM ’18
Oakford scored 13 points, and hit 2 of 4 from downtownHunter Oakford turned in an impressive performance. The 6’5 forward displays a nice touch from the perimeter, but is also a tough matchup in the post.
BEST REBOUNDER | HUNTER OAKFORD | FREEDOM ’18
Oakford pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. He consistently boxes out defensively, and is adept at controlling the ball in traffic.
BEST GUY OFF THE BENCH | JEREMY COFIELD | FREEDOM ’18
Jeremy Cofield scored 11 points off the bench for Freedom. The competitive junior hit 5 of 6 foul shots, including two late ones to clinch the win.
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | TYLER SAVAGE | CHAMPE ’20
Tyler Savage continues to display poise beyond his years. The frosh recorded 11 points and 6 rebounds.
BEST PASSER | ZYAN COLLINS | FREEDOM ’18
Collins led the game with 7 assists. He is very good at breaking down defenses and delivering accurate passes to open teammates.
BEST CATCH AND SHOOT GUY | VIKRAM GONDY | FREEDOM ’18
Vikram Gondy hit 3 treys in the second half. The crafty junior did a nice job using ball fakes to give him room to operate.
BEST STORY TO WATCH MOVING FORWARD
Freedom South-Riding have won a school record 16 games this season. Their team is very young, but appears to be improving as the season winds down. It will be interesting to see how far this young team can go in the post season.
