MVP: Cameron Alford (Brownsburg)
Alford started off quick and never really stopped scoring the ball. He was 6-of-8 in the first half for 14 points and even though THS put the pressure on him in the second half he still came out and scored the ball. Alford got his teammates involved as well dishing off a few assists. Alford finished with 22 points.
Best offensive performance: Antrez Baker (Brownsburg)
Brown really used his quickness well tonight getting to the rim pretty easily and scoring once he was there. He was efficient as well when he would take his shots and never forced anything. He finished the game 7-of-10 and was aggressive in going to the basket. He finished with 20 points.
Co-Best offensive performance: De’Avion Washington (Terre Haute South)
Washington also was really good on offense. He wasn’t nearly as efficient as I would have hoped but he got to the rim and made a few jumpers when his team needed them. He was a source of scoring when THS didn’t have anyone else scoring. Washington was 8-for-18 from the field for 24 points.
Best defensive performance: De’Avion Washington (Terre Haute South)
Washington was solid guarding Landon Hall. The only points that Hall got was on a wide open three and a few easy baskets when Washington wasn’t on him. Washington had a block and a steal as well. His athleticism really hurt Hall in the game and forced him out of his comfort zone.
Play of the Game: Packard Rozzi beats the buzzer
Rozzi hit a buzzer beater at the end of the third to extend the lead to 55-49 and take the momentum away from THS. It was his only made three-pointer and it couldn’t have came at a more important time.
Best underclassman: Cameron Alford (Brownsburg)
Alford was great in this game. He was easily the MVP for how quick he got Brownsburg out of the gate. We knew he can play like this and it was nice to see him have a good game against a team with a few really good guards.
Best under-the-radar performance: Packard Rozzi (Brownsburg)
Rozzi didn’t play his best game only making 1-of-5 from deep but played his role really well. He finished with eight points along with two steals and two assists. His only three-pointer of the game was at the end of the third to beat the buzzer to give Brownsburg a six point lead and to s
Best passer: Jesse Brown (Terre Haute South)
Brown is a super quick lead guard and he can drive by his defender and dish the ball off of it when he gets inside. Not tall enough to be able to consistently finish so he passes it out a lot. He really has worked on this aspect and it showed tonight passing off five assists and it could have been more but THS couldn’t hit many outside shots.
Best rebounder: Craig Porter (Terre Haute South)
What Porter really did well in this game was rebound the ball. He didn’t play that great on offense but hit the boards hard. He ended with 10 rebounds many of which led to second-chance points. It was nice to see him crash since he has mainly been playing on the perimeter.
Best takeaway: Terre Haute South came out in this game really flat and never got going. Jaylen Minnett started to force shots and was taken out for it. They have enough offense without him to win a game like this, Brownsburg was just on fire in the game scoring the ball inside.
