Two losses may get you into a tie while three would take you out of contention. Both teams came in tied for fourth place two games behind the leaders.
Lebanon seemed like they wanted it more in the end staving off a Southmont push in the second half to take the win 69-65. Lebanon was at one time up 15 in the fourth.
Leading scorers: Southmont: Cam Chadd 19, Kaleb Swick 19, Justin Howard 12. Lebanon: Trevor Lakes 28, Will Byrd 13, Jaylen Washington 12, Carson Burtron 10
Leading rebounders: Southmont: Cam Chadd 6, Kaleb Swick 6. Lebanon: Trevor Lakes 9, Jaylen Washington 8.
MVP: Trevor Lakes (Lebanon)
Lakes seemed like he was out for blood scoring 17 points in the first half on 8-of-13 from the floor. He had a huge dude which really just took the momentum from Southmont. He was a force to be reckoned with and really had his way with the height difference that he had over Southmont. He never slowed down either in the game finishing with 28 points and three huge blocks.
Co-Best offensive performance: Cam Chadd (Southmont)
For some reason, Chadd went to the bench an awful lot and even though he still was really good on offense. He had 19 points in the game on 6-of-14 from the floor. He had a few of his points in transition but shot the ball decently well. Lebanon did a very good job on him and made him work for everything.
Co-Best offensive performance: Kaleb Swick (Southmont)
Swick really got going in the second half when he became very aggressive going to the basket. Lakes got into foul trouble and that opened Swick up to be able to go to the hoop. He was 7-of-11 from the floor and really looked solid. His outside shot still needs work but he is getting better at going to the basket starting on the block.
Best defensive performance: Carson Burtron (Lebanon)
Burtron is a 6’2 freshman who is very long. He was tasked with guarding Chadd for some of the night and did a really solid job on him. He had two steals and forced Chadd out of his comfort zone. He was a great guy to bring off the bench with the defensive energy he provided the team
Play of the Game: Trevor Lakes drains two free throws
With 5.7 seconds left and up two, 67-65 Lakes was fouled and calmly stepped to the line and make the two game clinching shots.
Best underclassman: Carson Burtron (Lebanon)
Burtron played well on defense but then also played really well on offense too making him the best underclassman on the court. He scored 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Burtron got to the basket very nicely and makes him a very intriguing player in the 2020 class.
Best under-the-radar performance: Trevor Boyne (Lebanon)
Boyne scored two points in the game but he may of had the biggest overall impact. An undersized forward he had four rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and two steals to go with his two points. He impacted the game in many different ways at key times. His free throws came in a tie game to so that was clutch.
Best passer: Will Byrd (Lebanon)
Byrd scored the ball well and as a known shooter he drew a lot of attention. He passed the ball well out of the pressure and had two assists. He moved the ball well and when nothing was there on the drive he kicked it out instead of forcing the issue.
Best shooter: Justin Howard (Southmont)
Howard may have not had the best shooting night but he made two big ones near the end of the game to help Southmont claw back. He’s just a sophomore and you can tell, but he isn’t afraid to shoot it especially after starting 0-for-3.
Best rebounder: Jaylen Washington (Lebanon)
Any time you’re an all-state running back you’re going to get rebounds because of toughness no matter how tall you are. Washington had eight rebounds and was solid on both the offensive and defensive glass. He really crashes well because on the perimeter not often does he get blocked out.
Best takeaway: This was a good game for both teams. Lebanon proved that they could hang on for the win and show toughness while Southmont never backed down even with the deficit in the fourth quarter. Lakes is a high volume scorer and it was a great battle for him tonight showing his inside game.
