MVP: Rees Schuette. The 6-foot-6 Bulldog power forward put up 25 points and 11 rebounds on 12 of 17 shooting as the Panthers had nobody that could deal with Rees around the basket. Rees is shooting 67 percent from the floor this year and averaging 21.3 points and 9.2 rebounds a game. Time for somebody to start giving this young raw prospect a look.
Best Offensive Performance: Cade Johnson. The PACT junior scored 21 points including four three-pointers that to PACT making a run in the second half. He wasn’t able to get enough from his teammates to make a run but Cade shot 7 of 14 from the floor and more than half of those scores came at the arc.
Best Defensive Performance: Leighton Buhr/Tyler Scheevel. Scheevel didn’t allow PACT guards to turn the corner pretty much ever. The sophomore is a strong guard with the strength to stop the corner turn attack even if not in full ball stop position. Buhr is a strong junior with agility that usually defends off the bench at a high level. He started this game and did a solid job plus hit three first half jumpers (including two treys).
Best Guy Off the Bench: Schuette. Rees usually starts but he came off the bench in this game to change everything that was happening momentum wise. Scored three times instantly in the post when coming in and had 16 and 6 in the first half.
Best Under the Radar Performance: Blair Jilek. Blair is the trademark worker four man. Never stops hustling, defends with effort, rebounds consistently, sets strong screens, and does whatever a coach asks him to.
Best Underclassmen: Michael Ziermann. Ziermann is scoring between 12 and 13 a game but had a tough shooting day in the Target Center. Things worked out though as Michael had six assists most of which came later in half two when the Bulldogs put the game away.
Best Story to watch Moving Forward: The Target Center Games! What a great experience for the teams as well as their younger teams. The Timberwolves do this consistently for teams around Minnesota and it’s a great experience as the players sit on the Wolves bench and use a lot of their different facilities.
Best Aspect of the Environment: Continuing with, Target Center Games! Playing on the Target Center floor, sitting on the bench chairs the Wolves use, listening to the same announcer that calls Wolves games, it’s a great experience for teams and their younger teams too.
Best Prospect: Schuette. He put up a solid nine and eight last year but the jump to 21 and nearly ten boards a game has been a great development for this team. Rees has an excellent shoulder turn into a touch finish, he is quick off his feet to board and swat shots, and he runs the floor well too. Long power forward who has a lot of room to grow.
