Leading rebounders: Center Grove: Trayce Jackson-Davis 15. Greenwood: Jeff Reynolds 5.
MVP: Spencer Piercefield (Center Grove)
Piercefield scored a quiet 21 points and looked really good overall. He’s just a sophomore and he went 6/8 from the floor and 6/6 from the line for his points. He has a really nice looking shot and ran the team well. Didn’t force the matter.
Best offensive performance: Travis Roehling (Center Grove)
Roehling twisted his ankle early in the third quarter and sat out the rest of the game but he still had 14 points. He was really efficient and really drove to the basket well. He is quick enough to get around the defender and has a nice jumper.
Best defensive performance: Trayce Jackson-Davis (Center Grove)
Jackson-Davis is a huge inside post kid who is extremely long and athletic. He had a monster block and added in a few deflections on passes in the paint. He pulled down 15 rebounds to add to his impressive defensive performance.
Play of the Game: Trayce Jackson-Davis has a huge block
Jackson-Davis blocked a driving player and brought the crowd to its feet. It was a monster block and one of the few moments the crowd had energy due to the large amount of fouls being called.
Best underclassman: Ben Nicoson (Center Grove)
Nicoson is one of the many solid sophomores for Center Grove. He starts and is a pretty decent role player at this point. Doesn’t do anything great but does everything solid. He had nine points in the game.
Best under-the-radar performance: Kas Oganowski (Center Grove)
This was a guy who was the fifth guy off the bench but he still had eight points. He was a good player for them that gave them solid minutes off the bench. Another talented sophomore on the team.
Best passer: Trayce Jackson-Davis (Center Grove)
Jackson-Davis is a really decent passer out of the post and in this one he had three assists. He can affect the game in a multitude of ways and tonight he showed his passing ability.
Best shooter: Eric Moenkhaus (Greenwood)
Moenkhaus is a known shooter but he struggled tonight. He was 1/7 from behind the arc but still found ways to score 10 points. He was really under wraps and never really got any open shots up.
Best intangibles: Center Grove coach Zach Hahn
Hahn kept his team energized and ready to play. He was a voice on the sideline and you can see the young coach is well liked by his players. They respond to him and tonight they played as a team due to his constant coaching.
Best takeaway: Center Grove is a solid team that reminds me a bit of Carmel. They are a solid tough nosed team and Jackson-Davis is a solid inside post threat. He can really rebound the ball as well. Greenwood just flat out struggled shooting the ball tonight.
