OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the top prospects and performances at the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints Classic held last Thursday through Saturday. The field featured eight teams, five from Kansas and three from Missouri.
Teams
Barstow (Mo.), Battle (Mo.), Blue Valley (Kan.), Free State (Kan.), Olathe East (Kan.), Pembroke Hill (Mo.), Saint Thomas Aquinas (Kan.), Washburn Rural (Kan.).
Tyler Gieman, 6’1, 2017, Blue Valley (Kan.)
Easily one of the better all-around guards we have seen this seen, Gieman can score at all three levels, has a smooth all-around game and handle can make plays off the bounce and plays the game with flair.
Garrett Luinstra, 6’1, 2018, Free State (Kan.)
A solid guard with an all-around game. Is a standout perimeter shooter, but can also get to the bucket and score as well. His play this season has been a big boost to the Free State squad.
Jacob Gilyard, 5’7, 2017, Barstow (Mo.)
A Richmond commit, Gilyard is a dynamic defender that combines elite speed and quickness with energy and hustle. Is a good shooter, scorer and distributor, but is at his best creating havoc and racing out in transition. He is in the running for KC Player of the Year honors.
Daviante Ostrander, 5’11, 2017, Battle (Mo.)
A four-year varsity regular, Ostrander is a terrific long-range shooter that can get it going from deep. Has become a more consitent threat off the bounce throughout his high school career.
Curtis Lewis, 5’11, Pembroke Hill (Mo.)
Lewis is one of our favorites in the Kansas City area, he’s a terrific lead guard with a strong frame, athleticism and the ability to score at all three levels. He’s an impressive all-around player and will likely find a home at the Division II level.
Ben Hagenkord, 6’1, 2017, Saint Thomas Aquinas (Kan.)
We’ve seen Hagenkord a lot and written about his game several times this year, but he’s a gamer and a solid all-around performer. Can really stroke it from 3-point range.
Jordan White, 6’0, 2019, Washburn Rural (Kan.)
Really like this kid’s game, he can shoot it, get to the bucket and plays the game with flair and passion. He can do a lot of things and just finds a way to get the job done.
