Continue ReadingGabe Brown is a 6’7″ athletic wing who can shoot and rebound at a high level. His potential is unlimited as he has the height, length, and athleticism to compete with anybody. His jumper is smooth and effective both off the catch and off the dribble. He already has multiple mid-major D1 offers but I believe he is a high-major D1 talent.
Here’s my take on his game:
Strengths:
Athleticism – He’s 6’7″ with long arms, above average speed, quickness, and vertical. The only part of the physical side of the game he doesn’t have is weight, but he’s young. If he adds 15-20 pounds of muscle, he’ll be a matchup nightmare.
Shooting – Knockdown shooter from three or midrange. His pull-up game is deadly as he gets good elevation on his jump; combine that with his height and athleticism and it’s hard to even contest let alone guard effectively. He can really get buckets with his midrange pull-up. Most importantly, he looks comfortable shooting from anywhere and has a smooth release.
Rebounding – Though he is skinny, Brown is a very effective rebounder. He does a good job of attacking the ball at it’s highest point and going up to get it. He does a good job of putting back offensive rebounds for easy points. He also does a good job of grabbing defensive boards and looking up floor quickly for a fastbreak.
Areas For Development:
Handles/playmaking – While Brown doesn’t have bad handles, a big part of his game relies on him being more athletic than his opponents. In his case, this will most likely be effective his entire basketball career, as he truly is a freak athlete. However, there is always room for improvement. If he could develop an elite set of handles, he would become legitimately unguardable.
Defense – As in the case of his handles, Brown isn’t a bad defender. Given his physical gifts, however, he should be one of the best defenders on the floor at all times. His defensive presence should be felt every game. Brown does a good job of jumping passing lanes and picking pockets to generate easy fastbreak points. He’s only a step away from becoming a premier lockdown wing defender.
