The 6-foot-8 junior has been targeted by Division II programs as a prospect, also one Division I school.
“I’ve gotten a few letters in the mail and a few emails, and that was the beginning of it all,” said Woody. “And over the school year so far I’ve gotten phone calls and texts from different coaches and some invitations to camps and stuff.”
He mentioned Madonna, UM-Dearborn, Ferris State, Toledo and Concordia-St. Paul as the schools that have sent him initial recruitment.
“Now that I’m an upperclassmen, recruitment is more of a priority than past years,” said Woody. “I just hope to get an offer from somebody and play basketball at a higher level than high school.”
At 6-foot-8 and with a developed set of post skills, it’s no wonder why Woody is becoming a desirable post prospect for college coaches.
He defined his skill-set to PHMI.
“As you know I’m very tall, so I’ve dedicated myself to being a post player — so I have a lot of inside game and I’ve been working on that a lot lately,” he said. “Also, I can handle the ball and I can shoot the ball. I play pretty good defense, I’d say. But mostly down low I can be the most beneficial.”
So far this season with the Wildcats, Woody is averaging 14 points on 65 percent shooting, 10 rebounds 2 assists and a block per game.
“It’s a lot different than it was last year,” he said. “Last year I was a sub, and this year my role is to score and be the main scorer of the team. And I need to lead and help out the other guys by being the best I can be.”
Woody added: “I think we can win districts this year, and I just want to go as far as we can.”
