Nick ran this past summer with Legit Basketball, playing alongside Mr. Basketball candidate Malik Williams. Playing with this group exposed him to high level basketball and plenty of scouts.
Bishop Dwenger has some experience on their roster and a good amount of young talent but they haven’t quiet had the start to the season that they were expecting. Dwenger currently sits at 6-6 with all of their losses coming by 7 points or less.
“The first half hasn’t gone as we would’ve liked but it has been an eye opener for us and I think in the end, will have helped us more than it hurt us. Moving forward, we are looking to improve on execution in the 4th quarter.” If they can figure out how to take great shots and perform at a high level down the stretch in games when it matters most, Dwenger will be a tough team come playoff time.
Passino brings some size to the Dwenger lineup and an element of toughness down low. “I think I’ve gotten much better at being an offensive factor this season and I can help take the pressure off my guards.”
Passino’s floor positioning allows his guards to get to the basket or find him for easy finishes. He has a good touch around the fifteen-foot range and has started to finish well around the basket with both hands. “I’ve focusing on going a little slower when I get the ball in the paint and finishing off two so my move will be stronger.”
Nick is looking to make more patient moves with his back to the basket and take advantage of what the defense is giving him. He has improved his strength and aggressiveness inside the paint and bring the “big-dog” mentality to this group.
“As a team, our goal is to go to state and we all know that we can.” This will be a team to keep an eye out as the post-season approaches. If they can get hot at the right time, they will be a tough out in March.
Passino has been in conversation with multiple DII and DIII schools and is nearing an offer with Georgian Court in New Jersey. Nick wants a program that focuses both on academics and athletics so that he can receive a good education while playing basketball.
Keep an eye out for Nick Passino and the Bishop Dwenger Saints as they start to click on all cylinders come crunch-time.
