There are some Division I and Division II programs that have taken notice of the big lead guard, he’s eager to solidify that interest this summer.
“During last summer, when I played with Ohio Nova, that really helped my recruitment and it kind of sparked up. Most of the MAC schools and Verizon League schools and some D2s are interested,” said Boykin, who specified which schools.
“I’ve been hearing from Wright State, Liberty, Kent State, Findlay and Ashland — those are really the five that I’ve been hearing from the most.”
He laid out his specific goals for this spring and summer.
“In the spring and summer I’m really looking to just improve in all areas and to have a great showing,” said Boykin. “It’s my last AAU season, so I’m just going to go out there and play hard and get as many scholarships as I can.”
He added: “I think after the summer, recruitment will really, really skyrocket after playing high-level AAU. In August and September I think I’ll really see a lot of offers come in, and interest from even more schools than I see now.”
Boykin defined what his playing style is to PHOH, and where he excels on the floor.
“Usually the guards are smaller than me, so I like to play downhill and play physical. And my vision is there, so I like to get my teammates involved,” he said. “And I love defense, it’s my favorite; I love shutting my guy down and getting steals.”
During his first season at Miamisburg, Boykin is pleased with how he’s been playing. He transferred in from Chaminade-Julienne.
“I’ve dropped 30 pounds and got into the weight room, that was something I needed to fix. At Chaminade-Julienne they wanted me to be a bigger guard, and that wasn’t what was best for me,” said Boykin. “Miamisburg has given me an opportunity to be a true point guard, because that’s what I am, is a point guard first.”
