A quick guard who can get hot and shoot the ball as well as anyone in the state is best on the catch-and-shoot but this year he has added a little more to his game. The uptick he has seen in his scoring has really shown that he can score the ball in more ways that just around the perimeter. Donovan feels like he has shown improvement with his game from last year to this year.
“(I am) creating my own shot off the dribble and worked on my overall defense,” Donovan said. “I am also rebounding more than last year.”
Donovan’s improvements have helped Fort Wayne Dwenger get off to a 7-6 start but the record doesn’t show everything about how potent the team could be this year.
“Each of our losses we have had the lead in the fourth quarter,” Donovan said. “We have competed with some of the top teams in the area and when we learn to finish out games, I feel that we have great potential for March.”
With a better performing team this year and an uptick in scoring as well as a better rounded game, Donovan is starting to see some schools come around and become interested in getting the two-guard to attend and play for them.
So far Donovan has heard from colleges from a few different states such as Aurora, Hanover, Greenville, Lake Forest, Ohio Wesleyan, and Wabash. Donovan has visited Hanover, Lake Forest, and Ohio Wesleyan and has plans to make a return visit to those as well as possibly visiting Aurora and Wabash. He has no offers to this point but with continued success on the court, Donovan may start to see NAIA schools start picking up the phone and coming out to watch.
He may be even better in the classroom with a 4.0+ GPA and in college is looking to attend a school for a major of either Business or Physical Therapy. Donovan is also looking for a school that has a great basketball community.
As for the rest of the year Donovan is excited to see where his senior season goes with a start to the season that is very intriguing both due to the team’s performance and his personal performance.
“I am looking forward to playing against great competition, playing against out of town schools (Marion and Lawrence Central), and then getting ready for March,” Donovan said.
