He has hopped onto the scene this year as a guy that opposing teams must gameplan against due to his shooting and his ability to get to the rim. Henry brings more than just offense though as he is a big bodied wing that gets after it on the defensive end of the court and this combination has D1 coaches on the prowl.
Thus far, Henry has offers from Ball State, Indiana State, IUPUI, Toledo, and UM-Wisconsin. He has been on all of these campuses and also will be taking a visit to Bradley in the coming months. Henry has taken two unoffical visits in the past months to games at Purdue and Butler.
“It went really well,” Henry said of his visit to Purdue. “I saw a lot of good things out of that group even though they took the loss. They share the ball well and get back and play defense.”
Henry said he liked the Butler visit as well because of the atmosphere, “It went well. They have a good coaching staff and a good fan base to match. They seem to be doing all the right things for their players.”
One of the best things about Henry’s game is that he’s a tall and extremely athletic player. While not labeled as a fast guy, he’s extremely quick and that shows since he can guard anyone on the floor. He’s a strong player which helps him down low in the paint bodying up the taller players he may go against.
“Versatility,” Henry said of what coaches love about him. “They like how I can guard all the positions on the floor. They like how I can make my teammates better and not just focus on myself.”
Henry’s high school team, Ben Davis, is currently ranked 16th in the AP Poll with losses coming to the #1 team, North Central, twice in the past five days and #7 Warren Central. Halfway through his senior season Henry is looking forward to winning more games with this group.
“Individual accomplishments will come from team accomplishments,” Henry said. “Not that I just want individual accomplishments but I want to win. We haven’t won a sectional here in five years and that’s what I want for this group.”
Just a junior, Henry should see multiple more offers come in over the next year or so and he’ll have multiple different schools to choose from. Henry knows what the main things are that he’s looking for in a school already.
“Academics come first,” Henry said. “A lot of people look at it at as something to go and play basketball but I look at it as how can I further my education. I want to finish my education and get a degree in four years. If I get to go overseas with my teammates, that’s always fine but I want a school with a good academic system.”
