He has helped lead Leo with his experience this season as they look to get rolling heading into the final month of the regular season.
Moreau is fresh off his record setting night for Leo in a win over Belmont. Will went 11-16 from behind the arc which broke the previous record of 10 in a single game. Moreau paced Leo that night with 37 points in just three quarters of action (10 shy of the school record as well). Not only was his three-quarter performance impressive, Moreau scored all 21 of Leo’s first quarter points on 7-8 shooting from deep.
“We’ve had our ups and downs but we’re starting to click and come together.” Leo currently sits at 9-7 on the season after winning their last 3 games.
“We need to work on keeping teams to one shot and keeping them from getting offensive rebounds.” Leo isn’t a team with outrageous size so they have to gang rebound and Moreau has noticed that this is an area of improvement moving forward.
Moreau is known for his ability to knock down the deep ball but has been working on other aspects of his game. His teammates know when to find him when he finds the opening and he shoots the ball at a high rate. Will shot 100% from the free-throw line during his junior season as well.
“We keep each other accountable for everything and we keep everyone’s heads up.” As the postseason approaches, Will wants this encouraging trend to continue. He knows that if Leo is going to make a push in the playoffs, they will need to do it together.
As Leo starts cleaning things up in February, the Bishop Dwenger matchup sticks out on their schedule as one of their most important remaining games. Bishop Dwenger is one of the tough opponents that Leo has seen in their recent games and is also a team that they could see again in their sectional.
“They are a great team and it’s a battle every time we play them. They always bring out the best in us.” With Bishop Dwenger also starting to click on all cylinders as a team, this game could be a glimpse of a possible sectional championship, based on the draw.
As Will’s high school career draws to a close in the coming months, I asked him what he was looking for in a program at the next level.
“I look for a program that has all the pieces. They like to get up and down the court with a great coach the help develop the players.” Will has played in two different systems in his time at Leo. He has played the fast-paced run-and-gun offense as well as the more half-court systematic game.
Will has his mind set on becoming a teacher and eventually moving into the coaching realm after his days of playing are over.
Will draws his motivation from God, his family, and his Mother who passed a few years ago.
Keep an eye out for Will Moreau to make some more noise in the coming months as he helps Leo make a postseason push.
