Continue ReadingTerry Durham (2018) is in one of those situations at Cincinnati Woodward High School where he may not be playing the right position for his height. At 6’4”, Durham has been asked to play on the low-block for an undersized team. However, it’s paying off for Woodward, as Durham is averaging 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds.
“I’m a better outside player than inside. But they need me inside,” Durham said. He wasn’t complaining by any means, but this misfit could possibly be hurting his recruitment. Despite being sixth in scoring and third in rebounding in the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference, Durham hasn’t even heard from a college program.
While he’s one of the best players in Cincinnati, but he may not be one of the best prospects. It’s a frustrating situation to be in as a player. However, Durham can flat-out play, and at 6’4” he’s does have collegiate size. It would be surprising if he doesn’t draw attention in the coming months.
In the meantime, Durham understands that there are parts of his outside game that need improvement.
“Improve more of my ball-handling. I mean, it’s already good, but I can get it better,” Durham said. He also told PHO that adding more consistency to his outside shot will be critical.
Durham believes he will play on the wing at the next level.
Unfortunately, he did suffer one setback earlier this week. Durham, who often resembles a football player on the hardwood, ironically suffered a notorious football-related injury last Friday when he went down with a concussion.
“Well, Friday, I tried to go for a steal in a close game. And they said one of my teammates had went up-under me, and I had fell over and hit the back of my head,” Durham recalled.
He sat out of their game the following night. Durham told us the recovery process entails a lot of relaxing. He hopes to be back out on the floor this coming Friday against Cincinnati Taft.
But if you’re unable to make it to a Woodward game this winter, you can track Durham this grassroots season with Ohio Unity.
