Dromgoole is averaging 11.5 points per game while playing strong defense for an Eagles team that is in the thick of what appears to be an open section 5AAA.
“It’s been going OK,” Dromgoole said of the season. “We’ve been on some ups and downs. We’re trying to get back on track. I feel we’ve grown a lot throughout the year. We’ve got a long ways to go but we’ve come a long way too.”
At 6-foot-1, Dromgoole has decent size for the shooting guard position and his ability to check the opposing team’s best players has helped the Eagles from a defensive standpoint. At this point in the season, their team identity is very much one built on defense and scrappy play. Dromgoole exemplifies that style to a tee.
“I’m just trying to make good things happen for the team,” said Dromgoole. “We weren’t supposed to be a great team this year and I’m just trying to do as much as I can to help make things go well. We’ve come together really well and we’re building chemistry and we feel like we’re on a good track.”
The top teams in the section for Apollo to contend with right now appear to be Big Lake and Zimmerman. Monticello and Rocori could both be in the mix as well but right now, there isn’t a clear frontrunner. The Eagles certainly won’t go in with a lot of expectation, but with a young team that is starting to come together, they’ve got the capability to compete with anyone. Dromgoole is a big part of that.
Looking forward a bit past the high school season, Dromgoole is going to be playing grassroots with the Minnesota Comets this upcoming spring and summer. He didn’t play AAU ball last year but said he’s hoping exposure on the AAU circuit can help him draw college interest.
