Maurice was a part of the 21-win team that came up short to Wapahani in one of the more memorable Sectional Championships in recent history. Then, the next season as a sophomore, he helped Frankton make it all the way to the State Championship game before losing to Park Tudor and Trevon Bluiett.
The last two seasons, this has been Maurice’s team although the majority of the talent has been freshman and now sophomores. He’s grown into a leader for this group and has them 12-5 right now with a legit shot to win Sectionals and move forward in the 2A bracket come March.
A big reason for the team and Maurice’s success has been his jump in scoring. As a sophomore, he only averaged 7.2 points per game, but the last two season he’s over 20 points per game. He eclipsed the 1,000 career points barrier earlier this season and has improved his shooting percentage from 56% last year to 60% this season. He’s doing that being a lot stronger scoring at the rim.
It was something we saw this summer as he continually attacked the rim, slashing through defenders and finishing with length. He’s got a long, thin frame but he’s never let that slow him down because he’s so focused and aggressive.
Knight isn’t a big three point shooter but over the last few years he has improved. So far this season through 17 games, he is 16/50 for 32%. He’s got the form and the skill just never has been a big part of his game so at the next level, it could take big, quick steps forward. However, the area that has always accompanied his scoring ability is his rebounding. He is over 7 rebounds per contest right now and gets more than two offensive rebounds per game as well.
Maurice is still looking for his first official offer but Anderson and Saint Francis (IN) have been checking in on him. He would fit really well at a DIII program where he can play more of his natural position but with time, he could work well with an NAIA program.
