The Class of 2019 guard was a NECC All-Conference Honorable Mention last season in which he saw himself as a key contributing starter at Westview. The 6’2” guard played with Spiece Indy Heat 2019 Red this past summer and built upon his strong freshman season.
Elijah is a consistent, smart, and controlled guard. His ability to make the right play even in clutch situations is what sets him apart from others in this guard heavy class. He never seems to be flustered and puts himself in position to make the right plays.
“We’re 7-5 right now and haven’t lost a game by more than 6. We’re just a few plays away from having a great record.” Hales understands that after the two senior leaders graduated from last year, that he is now the leader of this young team.
They’ve had some tough losses down the line in games but as they continue to mature and learn as a young team, they will be able to start pulling wins out. They play well against just about any team.
Westview starts four sophomores and one freshman and they really look for Elijah to hold them together. He has experience at this level that they look up to and follow suit. He is a leader by example and vocally for this team.
Elijah is pushing this team to do more and more each night. Hales averages 18 points and 5 assists this season.
He is also one of the better on-ball defenders in this class. “I think our team defense is playing very well at the start of this season.” Hales hangs hit hat on the defensive-end of the floor just as much as he does the offensive end. His leadership qualities show on defense as he has high expectations from all of the guys on the team.
“The biggest things we’re trying to improve at this point are our team rebounding and our ability to help each other get open on offense with screens and movement.”
Hales wants to see this team continually progress in the second-half of the season and push for the NECC Championship. “Our main goal every season is winning the sectional title and playing our best basketball in March.”
Hales also posts a 3.97 GPA in the classroom. The book-smarts transfer well to the floor as he has good court vision and a high basketball IQ. Look for Elijah Hales to lead Westview to a strong second-half of the season as they look to make some noise come post-season play.
