Andreas Wilson from Louisburg HS is a scoring machine! In his first game as a junior, he exploded for 57 points, 15 rebounds and 3 steals against a solid Northern Vance team. You read that correctly. A 6’0” guard scored 57 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in one game. On the season, he’s averaging 31 points and 8 rebounds per game for his Louisburg High School team. He’s also an amazing student in the classroom sporting a 4.3 GPA. Schools would be wise to make their way down to Louisburg soon.
Strengths:
Scoring Ability – Offensively, this kid flat out gets it. Doesn’t necessarily pass the eye test because he’s undersized, but he’s one of those guys you have to watch in person on multiple occasions to understand why he fills it up so consistently. Extremely high IQ when it comes to scoring the ball. He moves very well off the ball and utilizes screens much better than your typical high school guard. Possesses freakish athleticism that allows him to finish above the rim, has a quick release on his shot and attacks defenders at uncommon angles, allowing him to get to the free throw line on the average of 13 times per game. On top of everything already mentioned, he can really shoot the ball from each level. When he’s on, at the high school level he’s obviously a really tough player to handle.
Athleticism – When it comes to pure raw athleticism, this kid has it all. If he gets an open court steal, get out of the way. Has had several highlight dunks that have gave his team a spark that ultimately helped lead them to a few wins. Uses his run and jump ability to garner a ton of rebounds despite his size. Excellent rebounder at the guard position, averaging right at 8 rebounds per game. Defensively, he uses his quickness to beat ball handlers to the spot and has quick hands that lead to him picking up 3 steals per game. Also does a solid job getting low and boxing out. Has a sneaky strength about him that allows him to do some uncommon things for his size at the high school level.
Areas for Improvement:
Versatility – Andreas is a pure scoring guard that can handle the ball. However, he isn’t what some people would call a prototypical true point guard. His court vision has proved to be solid when he’s in passing mode and looking to create for his teammates, but his bread and butter is scoring the ball. Don’t get it confused. He is very unselfish despite his huge scoring numbers and shares the ball, just not in the typical. Very unique scoring guard.
Size For Position – As aforementioned, Andreas is more of a combo guard and is currently standing around 6’0”” and weighing about 165 lbs. He’ll have two summers to continue getting stronger, getting in repetition to adjust to any muscle (or strength) he adds and allow it to translate to the court. Already possesses the athleticism to overcome most of the cons that come with being undersized, so added muscle and strength will only help him in the long run.
Conclusion:
Without a doubt, Andreas Wilson will play college basketball at a high level and he will score plenty of points. Has unteachable skills offensively and never stops moving. His size may scare off some schools, however his production in high school coupled with his athleticism, shooting touch and his remarkable GPA which is currently a 4.3 will attract him some interest and more offers in due time. College coaches, take a deeper look.
