Prep Hoops Colorado 3A Team Rankings: Week 9
The ranked teams in 3A were impressive last week, with only two losses among the entire group ranked in the top 10 teams in the Week 8 edition.
That means there wasn’t much shakeup in the list this week, but chances for movement are coming soon:
1. Resurrection Christian (14-0; LW: 1)
The Cougars stayed perfect with a 129-49 victory over Estes Park. Thirteen different players scored for Resurrection Christian, led by Tanner Ervin’s 30 points, as the Cougars reached at least 98 points for the fourth time in five games. A top-10 matchup with Sterling comes Friday.
2. Colorado Springs Christian (13-2; LW: 2)
The Lions head an impressive 3-0 week that included a nail-biting 40-38 victory over No. 3 and previously undefeated Manitou Springs. CSC has yet to lose to a 3A team this season.
3. Manitou Springs (13-1; LW: 3)
The Mustangs bounced back from the narrow loss to Colorado Springs Christian to post lopsided victories over La Junta and Lamar. Senior Lucas Rodholm and junior Cole Sienknecht averaged 16 points apiece in the two wins.
4. Kent Denver (12-2; LW: 4)
The Sun Devils moved to a perfect 5-0 in the 3A Metro League with a 65-59 victory last week over rival Colorado Academy. Max Mehlman, a 6-2 senior guard, led four scorers in double figures during the win with 16 points, helping to counteract a 21-point performance in a losing effort by 5-11 Colorado Academy guard Hunter Shkapich.
5. Sterling (12-2; LW: 5)
The Tigers cruised to wins over Brush and Platte Valley last week that pushed them to 6-0 in the 3A Patriot League. Sophomore Carter Keil had 25 points in the win over Brush. A massive challenge looms on Friday at home against No. 1 Resurrection Christian.
6. Alamosa (12-1; LW: 6)
The Maroons catapulted to the top of the 3A Intermountain League at 6-0 after wins last week over Bayfield, Monte Vista and Montezuma-Cortez. Senior Ryan Brubacher continues to be one of the best players in the classification, averaging 21.2 points, five rebounds and four assists per game.
7. Basalt (11-1; LW: 7)
The Longhorns continue to roll. They won 11 straight and haven’t lost since their season-opening loss to Del Norte way back on Dec. 1. Michael Glen, the 6-7 senior and 1,000-point career scorer, is averaging 22.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. His presence should give the Longhorns a chance to compete with anyone when the postseason rolls around.
8. DSST Stapleton (12-3; LW: 8)
The Knights cruised to a three easy wins last week and are now 9-0 in 3A Frontier League play. A big non-league game against Faith Christian awaits Friday.
9. Strasburg (10-2; LW: unranked)
The Indians got the experience of a lifetime last week when they were able to play a game at the Pepsi Center, the home of the Denver Nuggets. Strasburg took advantage of the stage behind a big game from Conner Martin and blitzed Frontier Academy. The Indians then edged Valley 80-72 to jump into the rankings.
10. Bishop Machebeuf (12-2; LW: 10)
Impressive victories over Jefferson Academy and The Pinnacle helped the Buffaloes hold firm in the top 10.
