Moeller’s victory over conference rival and former #2 ranked La Salle helped constitute some movement within the top five, but other than that is was a quiet week in the rankings. But with the return of many transfers this week along with a few top 10 match-ups, do not be surprised if the rankings for next week look much different. So without further ado, here is the top for Cincinnati for the week of January 16th:
- Moeller (13-0, 1-0), Previous Rank: 1– The Crusader train keeps on rolling with 2 solid victories over Kettering Alter out of the Dayton area and #3 ranked La Salle. A rematch with La Salle on 2/3 could be the only obstacle that keeps Moeller from an undefeated regular season.
Upcoming Schedule: 1/20 at St. Xavier, 7:30pm; 1/21 vs. Springfield, 7:30pm
- Summit Country Day (12-0, 6-0), Previous Rank: 3- Summit, the number one ranked D-III team in the state, won two games last week over Lockland by 42 and Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy by 27. Week after week the Silver Knights continue to show that they are one of the best teams in Cincinnati and the state of Ohio regardless of division.
Upcoming Schedule: 1/20 at North College Hill, 7:30pm
- La Salle (10-2, 1-1), Previous Rank: 2- Star guard CJ Fleming returned Tuesday to help lead the Lancers to a 63-44 victory over Colerain. It was Fleming first game since injuring his shoulder over the holiday break but came one game to late as the Lancers lost on 1/13 to #1 ranked Moeller on 1/13 by 10. La Salle gets another crack at Moeller on their home court on 2/3.
Upcoming Schedule: 1/20 vs. St. Michaels (Canada), 7:30pm; 1/21 vs. Windsor Kennedy (Canada), 1:30pm
- Oak Hills (11-2, 7-0), Previous Rank: 4- Oak Hills is coming off a 3 point victory over fellow West Side rival Elder on Friday. The top team in the Greater Miami Conference will play three of their four games on the road including a trip Lakota East on January 24th.
Upcoming Schedule: 1/20 at Hamilton, 7:30pm
- Mason (10-1, 6-1), Previous Rank: 5- The Comets have won their last three games by a combined 32 points including a 26 point victory over a solid Kings High School team. Looks like a good time for the Comets to play their best basketball with a rematch looming in 10 days with #4 Oak Hills, who leads Mason by one game in the GMC.
Upcoming Schedule: 1/20 vs. Fairfield, 7:30pm
- Wyoming (12-0, 6-0), Previous Rank: 6- The Cowboys are quietly humming along going undefeated through their first 12 games and look to be running away with the Cincinnati Hills League title. Class of 2017 F Garyn Prater is having an outstanding season averaging over 16 points per game coming into the week.
Upcoming Schedule: 1/20 at Deer Park, 7:30pm
- Roger Bacon (11-2, 3-1), Previous Rank: 7- Big test for the Spartans this week as they travel on Saturday the 21st to play Woodward. A good challenge for Bacon as the last quarter of the season winds down.
Upcoming Schedule: 1/20 at McNicholas, 7:30pm; 1/21 at #10 Woodward, 6:30pm
- Hughes (10-3, 5-0), Previous Rank: 8- The win streak now sits at eight for Big Red after beating Withrow 49-47 thanks to senior G Corry Long hitting another game-winning shot, his second in 11 days. The Hughes Train looks to keep rolling this week with two games including one against conference rival and tenth ranked Woodward at Woodward.
Upcoming Schedule: 1/20 at #10 Woodward, 7:30pm; 1/21 vs. Indian Hill, 7:30pm
- Taft (11-1, 4-1), Previous Rank: 9- The Senators have won seven in a row since a mid-December lost to 8th ranked Hughes. Senators guard Dashawn Lawrence leads the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference at over 8 assist a game.
Upcoming Schedule: 1/20 vs. Aiken, 7:30pm; 1/21 vs. Cleveland East Tech, 7:00pm
- Woodward (10-3, 3-2), Previous Rank: 10- The Bulldogs have won two in a row since transfer Lonnie Berry has been in the line-up. Berry returns at the right time with Woodward hosting 8th ranked Hughes and 7th ranked Roger Bacon this week. Big chance for The Dogs to make a statement this week as a real contender in Division II.
