Player Of The Week: Jan. 16–Jan. 22
Tyler Riemersma, Bloomington Jefferson — It was reported from Jefferson that Tyler had 27 points, 32 rebounds and 7 blocks in a completely insane stat line against Robbinsdale Cooper, and as far as we can tell, the rebounding count is legit and good for the No. 9 spot in Minn. history for single-game rebounding. Jefferson pulled out the win in overtime.
Wambde Diaz, Cedar Mountain-Comfrey — On the SAME NIGHT that Riemersma grabbed 32 rebounds, Diaz boarded the same amount down south against Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s. It’s truly unbelievable that both performances happened on Jan. 17, 2017.
DeAndre Smith, Simley — DeAndre scored 44 points in a big win against Henry Sibley last week. That’s good enough for the all-time single-game scoring record at Simley… and that’s a school that just graduated prolific bucket-getter Jack Stensgard.
Sam Wilson, Farmington — Sam keeps putting up big numbers with scoring performances of 25, 31 and 31 last week.
Tre Jones, Apple Valley — 17 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in a win against Lakeville South. Oh, and the game-winning basket in overtime against Farmington. Tre is drawing Russell Westbrook comparisons with his propensity for racking up triple-doubles.
Myles Hanson, Chaska — The strong, physical wing played like a skilled post last week against St. Louis Park when he scored 21 points and snagged 19 rebounds in a conference win.
Daniel Oturu, Cretin-Derham Hall — Not long after verbally committing to the Gophers, Oturu helped beat Woodbury with 33 points, 15 rebounds and 7 blocks. His future coach, Richard Pitino, was watching courtside, and he had to be pleased.
