After averaging 7.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as a freshman, the 6’7″, 195-pound sophomore is off to a fast start. King has reached double digits in all 15 games this season as Plant City sits at 10-5. That includes five 20 plus point performances.
He’s averaging 17.1 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. Last Tuesday, I had the chance to see him for the first time last Tuesday and King scored 15 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds and a block.
11 of his 15 points came in the first half. The majority of his buckets came in the paint, but he showed off his stroke from outside as well.
A night later, King scored 27 points and added 19 rebounds in a win over Durant. Here’s what he had to say about this season so far.
“It is going pretty well,” King said. “We still have a lot of learning to do as a team and as individuals. Our goals are to win districts and have a winning record. Our mindset is to have the underdog mentality and winning mindset for us to be the best in the county.”
He’s looking to handle the ball more and bring the ball up the court.
Currently, King holds one offer from North Florida, a program that he visited and said he felt like he could fit right in.
He also has drawn interest from Georgia Southern, Northern Arizona and College of Charleston. He said North Florida and Northern Arizona have been showing him the most love as of late.
King is a very talented sophomore, who is growing before our eyes. He rarely gets frustrated and is always energized. He is a top 2019 prospect in the Tampa Bay area and as long as he gets stronger so will his all-around game. Expect more Division-I offers and interest to come his way.
