Highland- There are very few players over the last 18 years that Lone Peak has had that can say they were a 3 year starter, Steven Ashworth is one of them. Haws, Emery, Toolson, Shumway, and of course Frank Jackson are some of the only players who can claim being a 3 year starter as well. All of those guys are playing or have played D1 basketball and Stephen is looking to be the next to be able to say that. Stephen is a great student, he maintains a 4.0 GPA and is looking for IVY league opportunities at the next level.
Lone Peak is one of the top high schools in the country for basketball and has won 6 out of the last 10 state championships in 5A, Utah’s high classification. Ashworth really excels at shooting the ball, you can tell he really has put in a tremendous amount of time and effort into being a great shooter. He has a quick release and is a strong ball handler with solid vision to find an open teammate for an easy bucket.
Steven is 6’ and 170 pounds with room to add muscle to his frame and become a stronger more explosive athlete. Stephen knows that he has to improve on his overall physical strength, but understands his role as the floor general for the Knights and always plays within himself. Ashworth says, “I want to play at the next level, if that means that I have to play in junior college first, then I will do that.”
Ashworth plays for Lone Peak Reign in the AAU ranks, and is currently being recruited by BYU, Standford, Harvard. Stephen will graduate in 2018 and plans to serve a 2 year LDS mission. He will be eligible to play in college in the 2020-2021 season.
