Back in August, Kingdom Hoops program director Jake Sullivan told us that Wilson was the best rebounder he’d ever seen – we’re starting to believe him. Not only is the 6’6 PF leading the state by a wide margin, but he’s doing it while playing at the state’s highest level, 4A.
2 Tucker Zahnley (2017, River Valley, Correctionville) 13.6
He’s 5’10 and a point guard; needless to say, he’s the only sub 6-foot guy on this list, and certainly the only point guard. We’re going to go out on a limb and say he’s probably one of the best rebounding point guards in the country.
3 Chuck Johnson (2017, Iowa City High) 13.0
We almost omitted the 6-foot-4 post from the list because those 13.o rebounds per game have come over a grand total on just one game. But the big-bodied and long-armed senior has always had a penchant for snaring boards, we expect this trend to continue throughout 2017.
4 Bryce Robinson (2017, Winfield, Mt. Union) 12.9
At 6’4, Robinson is the tallest guy on his team, which makes him the natural choice to be the leading rebounder. But he also leads the Wolves in scoring, assists and blocks. The do-it-all senior is having an outstanding season.
T5 Dakota Jaeschke (2017, Southeast Valley) 12.8
Last season as a junior, the 6’2 forward averaged a double-double to the tune of 14.9 points and 10.1 rebounds. No surprise, he’s doing that again this season, but he’s upped his rebounding by more than two per game.
T5 Jake Crozier (2017, Twin Cedars, Bussey) 12.8
Cam Arkema has been the guy getting the buckets this season for the Sabers, but he’s got a 6’5, 340 pound bruiser in the paint to clean up on the glass. Crozier has more of a lineman’s build, but in 1A hoops, that’s enough to make him an elite rebounder,
T5 Elijah Hazekamp (2018, Bishop Heelan) 12.8
One of just two juniors to make this list, Hazekamp is one of the more unique players in the state. He’s clearly an elite rebounder, thanks to a rangy 6’6 frame — but he’s not only one of the best rebounders in Iowa, the D1 prospect is one of the best all-around players in the state.
T5 Austin Phyfe (2017, Waverly-Shell Rock) 12.8
He’ll be at Northern Iowa next season, and Panther fans will be very pleased with the addition of this versatile 6’9 power forward. He’s having a huge season for the Go-Hawks, and they’re of to a 8-0 start because of it.
T9 Kyle Arrington (2017, Lewis Central) 12.7
At 6-foot-10, it comes as no surprise that Arrington makes this list. He’s one of the tallest players in the state, and has been generating plenty of late college interest because of it; Division II and NAIA programs have become intrigued with the Titans center.
T9 Will Woodruff (2018, St. Edmond) 12.7
The other junior (Hazekamp) on this list of seniors, we got a chance to see Woodruff in person in December and came away impressed. He’s got a good, strong build and jumps very well. Perhaps most importantly, he plays with his hair on fire, and is an ultimate Warrior down in the paint.
