What an amazing season this senior guard is piecing together. Each night out seems to be special for him, and this was his best performance of the season. He’s shooting 66 percent from the floor and 50 percent from deep — let that sink in. Division II schools should offer.
Ryan Van Wyk (Pella) — 34 points on 14-19 FGs (2-3 3s), 8 rebounds, 5 assists
Another kid who we think should have some Division II offers by now; the 6-foot-6 wing is shooting 67 percent from the floor this season. This game was particularly impressive because it came in a rivalry win over Pella Christian.
RJ Harris (AHSTW, Avoca) — 33 points, 5-7 3s, 7 rebs, 4 stls
He’s really heating up, and this effort in a 17 point win over Logan-Magnolia is starting to seem more like a typical Harris performance than a special one.
Drake Johnson (Stanton) — 43 points, 10 rebs, 3 steals
Ok, Drake, you definitely have our attention now. Johnson is just a sophomore, and the 43 points are the second most by any 2019 in Iowa this season. He’s averaging 22 points per game this season, and efficiently too, 55 percent from the floor.
Cade Daugherty (Bellevue) — 31 points, 12 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocks
His Comets aren’t necessarily enjoying a high degree of success this season, but Daugherty is having a nice little season. This effort came in a win last Friday night over Tipton, so that made it especially sweet.
Kylan Smallwood (Creston) — 31 points on 12-19 FGs, 8 steals, 5 assists
One of the state’s best sophomore prospects, Smallwood has really blossomed into a star this season for the Panthers. And he’s getting it done on both ends of the ball, as evidenced by those eight steals.
David Seber (North Linn) — 30 points on 11-19 FGs (7-14 3s), 8 steals
The Lynx are just running all over their 1A competition in Iowa this season. And it seems every week we have one of their guys represented on this list. The 30 points and seven 3s are great, but those eight steals are the most eye-opening stat of the night.
Jake Hilmer (North Linn) — 22 points, 15 assists, 5 steals
We’re pretty sure, almost positive, that Hilmer has made this list more than anyone else this season. And he’s just a sophomore. 22 points, that’s ho-hum for the 5-foot-10 speedster — but those 15 assists, that’s big-time; and it’s not even his highest assists output this season.
Dylan Hundley (Camanche) — 17 points on 5-8 FGs, 13 rebounds, 11 steals, 8 assists
This is as close to a quadruple-double as we’ve seen this season from the senior forward. Nonetheless, a triple-double will always make this list, and this was an atypical one of the points/rebounds/steals variety.
Austin Roetman (Pocahontas Area) — 39 points on 17-20 FGs, 17 rebounds, 3 blocks
The Briar Cliff-signee is having a monster season for the Indians, and this might have been his best performance yet. The 39 points are a season-high, and the 17 rebounds are close (he had 19 back on Dec. 2). And the 17-20 field goals is definitely one of the most efficient shooting outputs we’ve seen this season.
