Cade Moritz (Des Moines Roosevelt) — 18 points on 5-6 FGs (8-9 FTs), 12 rebounds
These numbers may not seem as gaudy as the usual picked performances, but this situation was a bit different: This was Moritz’ first game this season after sitting out because of a transfer. He was about as efficient as possible in his first game with his new team, and no question was instrumental in a three point win at Ankeny Centennial. The ‘Riders are a different team with Moritz in the lineup.
Tyreke Locure (Des Moines North) — 41 points on 14-23 FGs (6-8 3s), 6 assists, 2 steals
The super sophomore has been absolutely sizzling of late, and this performance in last Tuesday night’s win over defending 4A state champ Valley was just another in a series of outstanding games. He’s averaging 25.4 points per game this season – pretty remarkable considering he’s just a sophomore and plays in Iowa’s largest class.
Jacob Rau (Waukee) — 28 points on 11-14 FGs, 16 redounds, 6 blocks
Another CIML standout, there were several of them last week. Rau is one of the most skilled and polished big-men in Iowa, and he went to work last week in the Warriors’ seven point win over a very good Johnson team. The efficiency is key here, and those six blocks are especially impressive when you consider that the Dragons are one of the biggest teams in the state.
Kole Perkins (Danville) — 12 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, 7 steals
This is the epitome of a stat-stuffing night, and as close to a quadruple-double as you’ll see. Perkins is an athletic 6-foot-2 guard who glides to the hoop and uses speed and length to disrupt defensively. When we last spoke with him he was not being recruited yet. He’s a hidden gem.
Sam Ingoli (Dowling) — 17 points on 6-10 FGs, 8 rebounds, 6 assists
Dowling picked up its third straight win last Friday night and its point guard Sam Ingoli was masterful in the win. Iowa’s fourth-ranked 2018, Ingoli was picking apart the Mason City defense that night, carefully dismantling the Mohawks each time down the floor.
Lim Chuol (Chariton) — 24 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks
Iowa’s unofficial triple-double king, the Chariton point-forward struck again last Friday night during a 10-point win over Centerville. North Linn’s Jake Hilmer might have an argument for “triple-double king” – but we’re giving the slight edge to Chuol for now.
Riley LeGrand (Beckman Catholic) — 17 points, 12 assists, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks
This senior point guard has been posting some decent numbers for awhile now, he’s finally arrived now it seems, and made that statement emphatically with this triple-double last Friday night. He’s enjoying an outstanding season, averaging 15.8 points and 6.5 assists per game.
Josh Dueker (Iowa Christian Academy) — 30 points on 12-19 FGs, 14 rebounds, 3 steals
After losing 10 straight games, the Blazers at ICA have now won three consecutive, and Josh Dueker has been tremendous during that run. He started the three-win week with this scintillating stat-stuffing performance in a 20 point shellacking of Seymour.
Drew Olson (Osage) — 39 points, 8-14 3s, 6 rebounds, 3 steals
He’s enjoying a fantastic junior season, and continued his brilliant play with this gem of a game last week. The 6-foot-2 guard is averaging 19.8 points on a tremendous 59 percent shooting this season. And more importantly, he’s led the Green Devils to a 14-0 start.
Caleb Lomica (North Polk) — 28 points on 9-11 FGs, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals
North Polk has struggled this season, but last Friday everything seemed to be clicking for them – including its lengthy 6’5 center. Lomica is one of the state’s longest and bounciest bigs, so the blocked-shots are expected, but the 28 points he poured in during the 18 point win over Gilbert was eye-opening.
