Iowa Player of the Week (5)
Zack Lasek (Highland, Riverside)
One of Iowa’s best freshman, this 6’7 center was crazy good in two early-week wins for the Huskies. On Monday he scored 21 points on 8-12 shooting while swatting six shots. That momentum carried into Tuesday, when he scored a season 26 points to go along with 9 rebounds.
Drew Olson (Osage)
Mr. Do-it-all, Olson is one of those guys that fills up the stat sheet each night out, last week especially. In three Green Devils wins, Olson averaged 19 points (62 FG%), 6 rebounds, 4.7 assists and perhaps most impressive, 4 steals per game.
Joe Smoldt (Gladbrook-Reinbeck)
This elite player is good each night out, and could probably be put in this poll every week. Last week — during two more Rebels wins — he was his usual sensational self, averaging 27 points on 53 percent shooting (9-16 3s), 5.5 assists, 5 rebounds and 2.5 steals.
Carter Boothe (Central Decatur)
Wow was he good last week, and he may have pieced together the best individual performance of the year with his triple-double on Friday night. He scored 23 points, snared 14 rebounds and dished out 15 assists in that game. During the three win week he nearly averaged a trip-doub, averaging 18 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 3 steals per game.
Dev Patel (Camanche)
This 6-foot point guard certainly has our attention after the start to his season. Last week in two Indians wins he shined, averaging 23.5 points on 56 percent shooting, 11 rebounds 4.5 assists and 2 steals per game. Patel will certainly be in the next installment of 2018 rankings.
