Tidbits
* There are 25 seniors committed to schools outside of the state of Ohio, and exactly 25 also committed to in-state schools.
* As it stands now, the Cleveland/Akron area has the strongest 2017 class. What we consider the Cleveland/Akron area touts 19 commits, a total which doesn’t even include Jaylen Harris and Naz Bohannon.
The Columbus area currently has 11, giving them little chance to catch up to Cleveland’s monster number over the next few months. Cincinnati has 11. Both Dayton and Toledo carry three a piece.
* Garfield Heights and Massillon Jackson both have three players committed to playing at the next level.
Cincinnati Moeller, Columbus St. Charles, Cleveland St. Ignatius, Akron St. Vincent St. Mary, Columbus Newark, and Bloom Carroll, all have two.
Hard to believe only three of eight seven schools were ranked in last week’s AP Boy’s State Basketball Poll.
* Bloom Carroll High School’s Matt Smith and Gavin Brown are the only set of high school teammates who will play at the same college next season (Shawnee State). The duo also played for the same grassroots team, VCC-NOVA Brown.
* With Wesson, Goodwin, Bazley, and Ahrens, Ohio State makes it six consecutive recruiting classes containing an Ohio player. In 2011 and 2012, Ohio State had back-to-back classes without an in-state product.
* The following are basketball stars who will opt to play college football instead: Jaylen Harris (Ohio State), Brendon White (Ohio State), Nate Weinman (Wyoming), Miles Joiner (Youngstown State), and Kyle Nunn (Pittsburgh).
You can bet on Naz Bohannon and Danny Davis to follow suit.
* The University of Findlay has the highest number of Ohio commits, with a total of four. This season, ¾ of Findlay’s roster is from Ohio.
West Liberty, a Division II program in West Virginia, comes in at a close second with three Ohio commitments.
* Matt Davet will have to travel further than any other player to arrive at his college campus. There are 710 miles between Cleveland St. Ignatius and Emory University. If you’re wondering, that’s 70 straight hours of pedaling if you decide to travel via bicycle, Matt.
* There are nine true point guards currently committed and 13 post players. Everyone else falls somewhere in between.
