He has personally displayed some of the best all around high school game play the area has ever known. Consistently filling statistic sheets in all categories was an ironic twist on Mr. Jefferson’s career as he played not for numbers, but for letters……..one letter in fact, the W. Transitioning this thought process to both youth and 35 & over former professionals takes a distinct type of person and Isaac is just that to both groups. Here is a deeper look into the proud West H.S. supporter:
1. What is your personal playing experience?
a.) I started playing in youth leagues, middle school, then high school. From there college, all the major minor leagues from the CBA, ABA, IBL, PBL, to the UBA. I also played professionally overseas, but now only play in the competitive 35 & over league.
2. How would you describe your coaching style?
a.) In your face, meaning if you do something good or great you’ll know about it. If you do something horrible I’ll also let you know about it. I hold every player equally accountable.
3. Do you set your system to your roster year-by-year or is your roster expected to compete within your same system?
a.) Your team should dictate how you play on offense. As far as defense, that’s different and remains constant.
4. What advice would you give to a kid attempting to play college basketball?
a.) My advice for any kid trying to play college ball, assuming their grades and tests scores are in order, would be to understand your weaknesses. I’m sure you already know about your strengths, but attempt to perfect your weaknesses and never take anything you think is being said about your game negatively to heart. Just listen and perfect that area of improvement too.
5. What advice would you give to someone looking to have a successful coaching career?
a.) Please know what you’re taking about when influencing the youth, care about your product (players), and don’t do it for a check. Try to have a relationship with your team and coaches. Make sure your staff is on the same page as you and make decisions based on team benefit, not personal.
