The main attraction of the month in the New Orleans Metro area was the annual Country Day Classic tournament at the Cajuns’ gym in Metairie. The tournament tipped off from December 19-22 and I was able to catch the championship game between Scotlandville and St. Thomas More.
2018 PG Javonte Smart led the Hornets to a 60-43 win scoring 24 points with 11 rebounds and 6 assists and 2017 F Lamarq Williams finished with a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds). St. Thomas More 2018 G Jude Joseph and 2017 G Jonathan Joseph were the top scorers for the Cougars with 13 and 12 points. Click here to check out The 10 Best from the matchup.
Right before Scotlandville and St. Thomas More took the court for the championship in the Country Day Classic, 2018 PG Jared Butler and Riverside rolled to a 91-68 win over East St. John (Scouting Reports) in the third-place game.
Also earlier that day at Jesuit, 2017 C/F Mitchell Robinson and Chalmette found themselves in a tight contest (Scouting Reports) against the Blue Jays but they were able to hold on for a 61-57 win. Earlier in the month, two of the metro area’s top teams faced off for a non-district game and St. Augustine had the upper-hand in the matchup, 56-48. You can watch the highlights and full game here and check out the Scouting Reports from the game here.
The last three videos include a trio of local opponents with Ponchatoula taking on Hammond and Hammond taking on Loranger. Ponchatoula beat Hammond 71-65 and Loranger avenged an early-season loss to Hammond defeating the Tornadoes, 76-61.
