We are at the half way point of the season and teams here in Cincinnati are starting to show their true colors. While there are plenty of good teams in the area, there are certain teams in the city that are starting to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. With that being said here is the first top 10 rankings for the Cincinnati area:
- Moeller (11-0, 0-0) – Looks as if Coach Carl Kremer has another team that could contend for a trip to Columbus. And the Crusaders have not only been doing it against local competition as they also won the Battle at The Villages tournament in Florida. The tournament victory also helped Coach Kremer earn his 500th victory at Mighty Moe. Lead by seniors Riley Voss and Keegan McDowell, Moeller looks to keep the ball rolling this week with a highly anticipated match-up with #2 ranked LaSalle this Friday.
Games this week: 1/13 vs. #2 LaSalle, 7:30pm
- La Salle (8-1, 1-0) – The Lancers lost their first game of the season in the Kingdom of the Sun championship game in Ocala, FL on December 30th in a game in which they also lost CJ Fleming to a shoulder injury. Word is he will be out for at least two weeks. While the Lancers were able to pull out a 41-36 victory over conference for Elder on Friday the test gets tougher this Friday as they face conference foe and #1 ranked Moeller at Moeller.
Games this week: 1/13 at #1 Moeller, 7:30pm
- Summit (9-0, 4-0) – The Silver Knights have been steamrolling there competition thus far this year winning their games by an average of 28.7 points per game. And the Silver Knights have beaten teams from the top three divisions in the state so they are taking all comers. Summit is led by one of the better backcourts in the Tri-State with the combination of seniors Sam Martin and Alex Dahling, who average a combined 32.9 points per game.
Games this week: 1/10 vs. Lockland, 7:30pm; 1/13 vs. CHCA, 7:30pm
- Oak Hills (8-2, 5-0) – The Highlanders two losses this year are by a combined 12 points this season, which includes a 9 point loss to #1 Moeller December 23rd. One of the better defensive teams in the Tri-State, Highlander opponents score on average 44.8 points per game. Ryan Batte, one of the better players in the Tri-State, is averaging 14.7 points per game to go along with 5.4 rebounds. Luke Rudy is also a player to watch for the Highlanders with averages of 14.2ppg to go along with 5 rebounds. Rudy is also a 44% shooter from behind the arc.
Games this week: 1/10 at Fairfield, 7:30pm; 1/14 vs. Lakota West, 7:30pm
- Mason (7-1, 4-1) – The Comets only loss of the season came to conference rival and number four ranked Oak Hills by six at home back in December. Since that loss Mason has reeled off three straight victories. Ohio Dominican commit Matt King looks to be starting to find his stride over the past five games averaging 13 points, 9 rebounds and almost 3 assist per game.
Games this week: 1/10 vs. Sycamore, 7:30pm; 1/13 at Colerain, 7:30pm
- Wyoming (7-0, 4-0) – The Cowboys just keep quietly churning out the victories starting the season on a 7-game win streak. During that streak they have victories over 8th ranked Hughes and a very good Indian Hills team as well. One of the reasons for the Cowboys success is sophomore G Joey Edmonds, one of the top class of 2019 guards in the Tri-State. Edmonds is averaging 16 points and 4 assist per game with a shooting line of 56/51/80.
Games this week: 1/10 at Ross, 7:30pm; 1/13 at Finneytown, 7:30pm; 1/14 at Badin, 7:30pm
- Roger Bacon (9-2, 2-1) – The Spartans are coming off of a tough 9 point loss to #2 La Salle on Saturday. Bacon played that game without senior stud forward Justin Johnson who has been bothered with a hip injury all season. With that being said Roger Bacon is still a team that could make a weekend trip to Columbus in March for the state semi-finals.
Games this week: 1/13 at Badin, 7:30pm
- Hughes (8-3, 4-0) – One of the hottest teams in the Tri-State over the past month. Big Red has won 6 straight contest including winning the Hilton Sandestin Beach Basketball Blowout in Florida. Senior guard and Stony Brook commit Corry Long was named tournament MVP posting averages of 21.5 points per game to go along with 5 rebounds and 7 assist per game while junior guard Dwayne Rosado made the all-tournament team with averages of 18.5 points and 3 assist per game. Big Red is a team that could make some serious noise in the D-II state tournament.
Games this week: 1/13 vs. Shroder, 7:30pm
- Taft (10-1, 3-1) – The Senators are another team in the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference that has played some outstanding basketball over the past month. Since there December 16th loss to Hughes, Taft has reeled off 6 straight victories lead by double-double machine Malek Green who is averaging 20 points and 13 rebounds for the season.
Games this week: 1/13 at Western Hills, 7:30pm; 1/14 vs. Taft (Chicago), 7:30pm
- Woodward (9-3, 2-2) – The Bulldogs received a much needed boost on Friday with the on court debut of transfer Lonnie Berry in Woodward three point win over Western Hills. Berry showed why he had such a loud buzz before he played his first game scoring 19 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 5 assist. Berry returns to team up with Terry Durham and Will Coker to form one of the better if not best Big Three’s in the city. If the Dogs can get PG Demontez Cooper healthy, this is another CMAC team that could make a run in the D-II state tournament.
Games this week: 1/13 at Aiken, 7:30pm
