5th Edition of the Utah Player of the Week
We’re back for the 5th edition of Player of the Week in the state of Utah. Region play is half way over and we had some impressive performances during the last week. Here are our candidates for player of the week for January 23rd through January 28th. Voting is located at the bottom.
Connor Shaw 5-11 SR Guard (Weber) continued his exceptional play with a great week. In two games, he averaged 20 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds. Shaw is such a dynamic player with his ability to score at the rim, mid-range, and from the three point line all while making his teammates better with his passing. He already has two scholarships offers from Dawson Community College and Eastern Wyoming College.
Nifai Tonga 6-4 JR Guard (Skyline) is probably one of the most underrated guards in the state of Utah. Last week, in two games he averaged 21.5 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assist including a 30 point performance in an upset win over Kearns. Tonga has a great feel for the game and I think he has a bright future.
Dylan Hendrickson 6-6 SR Guard (Pine View) the big guard had his best week of the season. In two games, he averaged 19.5 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Hendrickson is a versatile guard who can handle the ball and also post smaller defenders up. He will most likely be playing college football at the next level and will be signing next month.
Brock Gilbert 5-9 JR Guard (Syracuse) is such a dynamic player and folks in Utah need to start paying attention. In two wins last week Gilbert averaged 25.5 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals per game. He is a quick guard who is able to blow by defenders but is also a knock down shooter which makes him hard to stop. Come state tournament time, Gilbert is a kid who might be worth the price of admission.
