Senior Malik Watson led the Chiefs (15-8) with 11 points while senior Kenny Midura had eight points for the Warriors (11-12)
Here are the top 10 performers from this matchup.
MVP: Myikel Wilson (Chamberlain)
One of three Chamberlain players in double digits, Myikel Wilson ended up with 10 points. His shots were falling. However, his best contribution came with his passing ability. He dished out brilliant passes time and time again as the Chiefs started to put Steinbrenner away late in the third quarter. Wilson is one of the best passers I’ve seen this season.
Best offensive performance: Malik Watson (Chamberlain)
Malik Watson scored all 11 of his team-high points in the second half. Nine of those points came in the third quarter as he caught fire. Watson is fun to watch when he gets going. He did his part in this one.
Best defensive performance: Kenny Midura (Steinbrenner)
Not only did Kenny Midura have a team-best eight points, but the Warriors senior forward showed up on defense. He had a pair of blocks and didn’t let much by him. At 6’3″, 205 lbs., Midura is a player filled with power.
Best intangibles: Tennel Sanders (Chamberlain)
Tennel Sanders benefited from Wilson’s excellent passing, but he did his part creating shots down low. Sanders is the most consistent offensive threat for the Chiefs and that was proven tonight.
Best under-the-radar performance: Trey Williams (Steinbrenner)
With four points at the break, senior guard Trey Williams led the Warriors offense. He finished with seven points and tried his best as the point man for his group. It was a rough night for his offense, but I thought Williams held his own defensively.
Best catch and shoot guy: Reggie Lowe (Chamberlain)
All nine of Reggie Lowe’s points came from outside. He hit three 3-pointers and looked good doing so. Lowe made it look easy off quick passes and his shots gave Chamberlain plenty of life.
Best underclassman: Justin Daniels (Steinbrenner)
6’3″ sophomore Justin Daniels didn’t get many opportunties to shoot, but he hit a big 3-pointer in the third quarter to keep Steinbrenner around. That was his lone basket. You can see the potential there with Daniels.
Best attacker: Tennel Sanders (Chamberlain)
Sanders attacked early and often for the Chiefs. He scored 10 points in this game and really was the best inside presence throughout the night on either sideline.
Best energy: Angelo Sardegna (Steinbrenner)
Sophomore guard Angelo Sardegna scored six points for the Warriors in this one. He hit a 3-pointer and added three free throws in the fourth quarter. Sardegna was full of energy for Steinbrenner.
Best athlete: Zach Johnson (Steinbrenner)
Steinbrenner struggled to knock down shots consistently. Zach Johnson did as much as he could for his group with five points. The junior forward was vocal on defense and was hustling on both ends of the floor.
