MVP | CHARLES THOMPSON | SSSAS ’19
Charles Thompson continues to get better over the course of the season. This was probably the best we’ve seen him play. Thompson is constantly engaged on both ends of the floor, and can be difficult to deal with given his blend of size, mobility, and skill.
BEST OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | XAVIER JOHNSON | EHS ’19
Xavier Johnson was the best two-way player on the floor. He shot 11 of 18 from the field, 5 of 5 from the line, and 3 of 10 from downtown. Johnson scored a game-high 30 points, and converted some very difficult finishes at the rim.
BEST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | XAVIER JOHNSON | EHS ’19
Johnson led the game with 8 steals. The long-limbed sophomore was also a safe bet for double-digit deflections. Johnson anticipates extremely well off the ball, but is also a lockdown on-ball defender.
BEST UNDER-THE-RADAR PERFORMANCE | STUART GREENSPON | EHS ’17
Stuart Greenspon contributed 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and a block for Episcopal. The one thing that stood out most about his game was how hard he plays. Greenspon is a flat out workhorse.
BEST PASSER | CHARLES THOMPSON | SSSAS ’19
It’s not often to see a big man facilitate an offense, especially at a young age, but that’s exactly what Charles Thompson did in this game. The 6’8 post man dished out a team-high 3 assists.
BEST REBOUNDER | CHARLES THOMPSON | SSAS ’19
Thompson pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. 5 on the offensive end, and 5 defensive. He attacked the boards with purpose, constantly boxed out, and made tough catches in traffic.
BEST GUY OFF THE BENCH | JARED WHITE | SSSAS ’19
Jared White scored 9 points on 4 of 6 from the field, and looked especially comfortable in the middle areas of the floor. The 6’6 forward also did a nice job boxing out his man on the defensive glass, where he snatched down three boards.
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | XAVIER JOHNSON | EHS ’19
Johnson didn’t play like the best underclassmen. He played like the best player. Johnson is gaining confidence as he continues build strength and to grow into his body.
BEST INTANGIBLES | XAVIER JOHNSON | EHS ’19
With his team in desperate need of a scoring punch, Johnson did not shy away from the ball. Even though he scored 30, his most impressive contributions were probably on the defensive end.
BEST STORY TO WATCH MOVING FORWARD
Charles Thompson and Xavier Johnson have been two of the biggest stock boosters in the 2019 class so far this season. They each continue to get better, and command larger roles on their respective teams. These two young players have a chance to be very good as they continue to develop.
