As the game’s leading scorer, Shyheim Gilkerson did more than put the ball in the basket. The competitive lead guard spearheaded the Dragons aggressive defense and hit all nine of his foul shot attempts to help clinch the victory.
BEST OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | SHY GILKERSON | MIDDLEBURG ’18
Gilkerson got virtually wherever he wanted to on the court. The quick & crafty lead guard showed no fear when attacking the basket and constantly created easy looks for himself and others.
BEST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | CHRIS LOMAX | MIDDLEBURG ’17
Chris Lomax recorded a game-high 4 steals. The long & lanky guard was active & alert in the passing lanes, exhibiting solid instincts and quick reactions.
BEST UNDER-THE-RADAR PERFORMANCE | DAE DAE HEARD | MILLER ’19
Dae Dae Heard has a bright future if he continues to work hard and get stronger. Heard demonstrated nice touch out to the three point arc, but also showcased solid footwork along with the ability to score in the post against smaller defenders.
BEST GUY OFF THE BENCH | KJ MUHAMMAD | MIDDLEBURG ’18
KJ Muhammad provided a much-needed spark during Middleburg’s second quarter run. The high energy junior recorded 8 points off the bench.
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | AUNDRE HYATT | MILLER ’19
Despite his shot not falling, Aundre Hyatt played a good overall game on both ends. The well-built 6’6 wing recorded a team-high 15 points and 3 blocks. Hyatt showed confidence in his handle and the strength to finish through contact.
BEST REBOUNDER | DAVID HAGGLER | MIDDLEBURG ’17
David Haggler secured a game-high 9 rebounds. All of them came on the defensive end. The 6’9 big man has huge hands and does a nice job boxing out and collecting the ball at it’s highest point.
BEST PASSER | TYLER FOSTER | MIDDLEBURG ’17
We saw Tyler Foster deliver some timely, accurate passes in this one. The 6’5 guard is a quite clearly natural playmaker who enjoys creating looks for others.
BEST INTANGIBLES | SHY GILKERSON | MIDDLEBURG ’18
You absolutely have to love how hard Gilkerson competes. He constantly applies pressure on his opponent, both with his full court defense on the ball and his aggressive, downhill offensive style.
BEST STORY TO WATCH MOVING FORWARD
Middleburg, a top 10 team in the state, is now 7-3 after a tough early season schedule. After their contest at home tomorrow vs. Potomac (MD), they will face Kecoughtan, VA Academy, No. 1 Blue Ridge, Nationally Ranked Oak Hill, and Riverdale Baptist. This brutal stretch should tell us a lot about how good this team can be.
