MVP | DJ HARVEY | DEMATHA ’17
DJ Harvey was the best player on the floor in this game. The Notre Dame commit played an engaged brand of ball from the opening tip, contributing to his team’s win in multiple areas.
BEST OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | DJ HARVEY | DM ’17
Harvey scored 21 points, tying him with teammate Ryan Allen for the game-high. The skilled 6’6 wing made tough shots look easy, scoring it with consistency from all three levels.
BEST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | DJ HARVEY | DM ’17
Harvey blocked 2 shots and was very active and alert in the passing lanes. The versatile, super athletic senior was the without question biggest major impact player on the defensive side of the ball.
BEST UNDER-THE-RADAR PERFORMANCE | RAIDELL DE PREE | SMR ’17
Raidell de Pree continues to acclimate quickly into the American style of ball since his recent arrival from the Netherlands. The athletic 6’5 wing does it all. Defend, shoot, pass, handle. Coaches, if you need a versatile wing who can play at a high level, get him on your radar.
BEST GUY OFF THE BENCH | AAPELI SYRJAMAKI | SMR ’18
Another fresh face from abroad, Aapeli Syrjamaki played arguably his best game of the season last night. The 7′ junior was extremely active on the glass and showcased solid footwork to go along with a very nice touch around the basket.
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | MEKHI LONG | SMR ’19
Game in and game out, Mekhi Long is one of the most productive players on the floor. The high energy 6’6 wing oozes high major potential, and is just beginning to scratch the surface. Long just turned 16 today.
BEST PASSER | WYNSTON TABBS | SMR ’18
There has been a bit of a debate as to whether or not Wynston Tabbs is a point or a wing, but for me, he’s clearly a true point guard. Owning a long & broad frame, the athletic and crafty junior dances with the ball unlike many guards we’ve seen. Tabbs is usually is good for at least a half-dozen assists per game.
BEST REBOUNDER | DJ HARVEY | DM ’17
One thing DJ Harvey does at a high level is rebound in traffic. Harvey, who led the game with 10 rebounds, won’t hesitate to elevate and snatch the ball away from a 7 footer.
BEST INTANGIBLES | RYAN ALLEN | DM ’17
Ryan Allen has been one of the best point guards not only in the WCAC, but in the entire D.C. Metropolitan area this year. The athletic and strong guard hit timely shots and defended very well for the Stags.
BEST STORY TO WATCH MOVING FORWARD
This definitely is not the same Ryken team we saw lose by double-digits at PVI in December. Jahmir Young and Mekhi Long are two of the best sophomores in the entire area, and have a chance to emerge into even more prominent roles down the road. It will certainly be interesting to see where this team ends up by the end of the season.
