Continue ReadingOn Saturday afternoon, Christ School hosted one of the top teams from Virginia in Blue Ridge School. The visiting team features 6-foot-8 Clemson commit Aamir Simms, 2018 point guard Darius McGhee and unsigned senior guard Josh Colon. Christ School had a big game from Western Carolina recruit Matt Halvorsen as he scored 30 points but the Greenies came up short 60-58.
MVP: Josh Colon (Blue Ridge School)- The senior guard had a huge game and scored 12 points in the 3rd quarter that proved to be crucial in the final outcome. He finished with 24 points on the night on a barrage of jump shots and three-pointers.
Offensive MVP: One of the best shooters in the state, Matt Halvorsen had another great game shooting wise. He made seven-three pointers en route to 30 points on the night.
Defensive MVP: Josh Colon- Colon came up with a huge steal late in the game to give Blue Ridge (Va.) a 5 point lead with just under 20 seconds remaining.
Big Play of the Game: Matt Halvorsen of Christ School answered Colon’s lay-up with a huge three-pointer to put Christ School within 2 points with 14 seconds remaining. Halvorsen would get one last look at another three to win the game but it bounced off the back of the rim.
Best Underclassman: Justice Ajobgor (Christ School)
The freshman is going to be one of the top prospects in the state when it is all said and done. He scored 6 points and grabbed 9 rebounds on the night. He is starting to get used to the speed of the game, his footwork is improving, he has a soft touch around the basket, and can bang with the big guys down low.
Best Shooter: Matt Haloversen-The senior shooting guard is great at creating space to get his shot off, he can come off the ball or can create with a dribble. He is in range as soon as he walks in the gym. By far one of the best shooters in the state if not the country.
Best Passer: Darius McGhee- The junior point guard is great at finding the open man and can attract defenders with his ability to get in the lane and make the right pass for the easy basket. He is just getting off of a leg injury but looked to be back in form tonight for Blue Ridge.
Best Big Man: Aamir Simms- The Clemson bound big man is a force on the inside. He has broad shoulders and a big frame. He will help Clemson with a inside force at the next level. He scored 18 points on the night.
Do it All: Will Fleming- The Wake Forest baseball commit is a athlete. At 6-foot-6, Fleming is able to bang with the big guys down low and can finish at the rim. He is a natural at knowing where the ball will be and takes advantage of doing the little things to help Christ School.
Story Moving Forward: This was a great non-conference test for Christ School as they are in the middle of conference play in the Carolina’s Athletic Conference. This game will only help them in the long run as they try to get back to the state champion days of old. The return of Damon Harge will be a key factor in the rest of the season.
