Senior forward Derek Webster finished with a game-high 22 points for the Crusaders (11-5) while freshman guard LJ Thomas recorded 17 points for the Phoenix (7-8).
Here are the 10 best performers from this game.
MVP: Derek Webster (Seffner Christian)
Derek Webster committed to The Citadel before the season began. The senior has been focused all year long and on Thursday night he was the most locked in I’ve seen from him. He took out Brooks DeBartolo big man Craig Hall defensively and on the other side of the ball, Webster scored early and often. 11 of his 22 points came at the free throw line. Webster also had some really nice assists.
Best offensive performance: Reid Walker (Seffner Christian)
This kid right here seemed to crank up his effort on Senior Night. Reid Walker scored 19 points including 11 over the first 16 minutes. He had back to back jumpers to open the fourth quarter and continued to fly around the court whether the ball was in his hands or the team was in transition. Walker really played well.
Best defensive performance: Donald Jorden (Seffner Christian)
Donald Jorden accounted for eight points, eight rebounds and a steal. The senior big man has so much enthusiasm in his step when his number was called. Jorden played lock down defense and was a part of a strong rebounding effort for Seffner Christian.
Best attacker: Brandyn Hale (Brooks DeBartolo)
Only a junior, Brandyn Hale was fun to watch in this game. The guard had 10 points and really took advantage of open looks. He upstarted his confidence in the second quarter by scoring six points.
Best intangibles: LJ Thomas (Brooks DeBartolo)
Finishing with a team-high 17 points, LJ Thomas did plenty in this game. Seven of his points came in the first half as the Phoenix hung around the whole way. As the team crumbled in the second half, Thomas didn’t play as much, but when he was on the court, he never stopped hustling.
Best under-the-radar performance: Bryson Grasse (Seffner Christian)
Bryson Grasse quietly scored 11 points against Brooks DeBartolo. This kid rarely makes a mistake and off the bench, he certainly knows his role. Grasse gives Seffner Christian very strong minutes whenever he comes onto the floor.
Best catch and shoot guy: Reid Walker (Seffner Christian)
We’ve known for a while that Walker can shoot the ball. He had three 3’s in the game, all coming in the first half. His biggest 3-pointer of the night came right at the halftime buzzer to put the Crusaders ahead by eight at the break.
Best underclassmen: LJ Thomas (Brooks DeBartolo)
There weren’t many freshmen or sophomores to choose from between these two sides, but regardless it was easy naming Thomas the best underclassmen. He drained shots from all over the floor and used his speed to his advantage. He needs to slow down at times, but he’s on his way up for the Phoenix.
Best energy: Craig Hall (Brooks DeBartolo)
It certainly wasn’t Craig Hall’s best night. However, he fought his way to 11 points going up against Webster. On one possession in front of the Seffner Christian bench, Hall grabbed a rebound and slammed home a two-handed dunk. He added a free throw after he was fouled and the Brooks DeBartolo bench got fired up.
Best athlete: Darius Lue (Seffner Christian)
One of 10 seniors on the Crusaders roster, Darius Lue is a pure athlete. The guard had nine points in this game including four in the first quarter. Lue has moves that can break down defenses and he is a very talented shooter.
