Pitt commit Aaron Thompson led his team to a gutsy win last night. The extremely crafty and competitive floor general came up with timely plays on both ends of the floor.
BEST OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | JEREMY ROACH | PVI ’20
Jeremy Roach continues to show poise beyond his years. The freshman, who possesses a strong middle game, continues to amaze with his skill and toughness. Roach led a balanced attack with 16 points.
BEST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | BRANDON SLATER | PVI ’18
Brandon Slater, who scored 34 last time we saw him, starred in a defensive role last night. The super-versatile junior helped negate O’Connell’s bigs with his grit and hustle plays.
BEST GUY OFF THE BENCH | QUENTIN MILLORA-BROWN | O’CONNELL ’18
Quentin Millora-Brown put on a fantastic performance off the bench, providing a key spark during O’Connell’s initial surge. The 6’8 big man, who loves to run the floor and is always available for dump-offs, threw down a dunk and crashed the boards with purpose.
BEST UNDER-THE-RADAR PERFORMANCE | MATT LEWIS | O’CONNELL ’17
JMU is getting a flat out steal in Matt Lewis. O’Connell’s main man never gave up, netting a clutch 25 foot pull-up to tie it at 66 with under 10 seconds to go.
BEST CATCH AND SHOOT GUY | ANTHONY HARRIS | PAUL VI ’19
While admittedly his shot wasn’t falling with consistency early on, Anthony Harris recovered in a big way down the stretch, scoring 8 of his 13 points in the final four minutes of the game. The sophomore lead guard calmly netted two corner threes, demonstrating confidence in his perimeter shot.
BEST REBOUNDER | JEREMY ROBINSON | PVI ’18
Jeremy Robinson pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds. Two of them came on the offensive end. The well-built 6’6 forward also converted some nice finishes around the basket.
BEST INTANGIBLES | AARON THOMPSON | PVI ’17
Thompson forced a crucial turnover to earn his team possession with under 30 seconds left. He then calmly sank a free throw to clinch the 1-point win for his team. This young man demonstrates the traits of a winner.
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | JEREMY ROACH | PVI ’20
There was a strong core of young talent on display in this one, but Jeremy Roach was the best of the bunch. The freshman has become indispensable for PVI since entering the starting lineup.
BEST STORY TO WATCH MOVING FORWARD
Paul VI continues to score massive wins and build momentum. The way this team rallied from down double-digits with under 4 minutes left to come back and win on the road really showed character. It will certainly be interesting to see how good this team can be down the road.
