Programs like Terre Haute North, Terre Haute South, Edgewood, Sullivan, and Rockville are just some of the top teams. We spent some time on Monday to watch some of the top players. Here is our breakdown on some of the top 2018 performers.
Ty Drake – 6’4/SG/2018 – Sullivan – Drake is a tall wing with some length and a nice shooting stroke. He scored 25 points on 10/14 shooting, 5/9 from behind the arc. He did well off the catch and even showed a little ability to dribble into a pullup. His touch has really improved and he is much more of a willing scorer. He had a couple drives in transition and in the half court that really worked for him and he was able to body up a little bit.
DeAvion Washington – 6’4/SG/2018 – Terre Haute South – With Minnett out of the game, you got to see Washington step up and be the top guy and he impressed. He was good defensively getting up into guards and creating turnovers, which is where a lot of his points came. His jumper looked solid but didn’t get to show it off much with the talent difference.
Kyle Carver – 6’4/SF/2018 – Casey-Westfield (IL) – Carver is a long, lean forward who can really shoot the ball. He’s got good size on the wing and with his length it makes him really tough to stop when he decides to shoot. He scored 14 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. He scored some of those in the mid-range and at the rim.
Brigham Booe – 5’11/PG/2018 – Northview – Booe is a strong lead guard who has really filled out his frame and become much more of a leader. His jumper has gotten a bit better as well. When he is in rhythm, he can really hit from distance. He gets good elevation and has a solid release. He’s a tough guard and can out-muscle about anyone if he needs to. The team seems to feed off of his toughness.
Denny Zigler – 6’4/PF/2018 – Terre Haute North – Zigler is an undersized forward with a big, thick frame. He’s got some mobility in him and that really helps him in and around the basket. He scored most of his points on dumpoffs at the rim or in transition. He had 12 points on 5/8 shooting to go along with 9 rebounds. He knows how to box out in the post but the lack of length will hurt against a higher level of competition.
