15. St. Michael (10-1)
St. Michael has gotten off to an even better start this season than they did in 2015, for a team that ended the season in the Top 28. Will this team be able to do the same in a Division II that is lacking a top-end 4th team? Only time will tell.
14. John Curtis (9-2)
The Patriot’s are now at two losses, although that can be a bit decieving, as both losses have come against a Top 10 team, in the form of De La Salle. They also have a handful of really good wins over St. Paul’s, Country Day, and Brother Martin.
13. Ouachita Parish (9-2)
The Lion’s have played a tough schedule thus far, but have dropped in the rankings after being upset by New Iberia in the semifinals of the Wossman tournament.
12. Lafayette High (7-1)
The next three teams all cannibalized each other this past week at the Northside tournament, with Lafayette getting a win over Peabody, but dropping to Washington Marion. This week proved that Lafayette High’s great start wasn’t just a flash in the pan, and that they can compete with any team in the state.
11. Peabody (6-2)
Peabody proved this week that they are still capable of beating good teams, even when Cedric Russel doesn’t play well, as they did in the final game of the Northside tournament, getting a win over Washington Marion.
10. Washington Marion (10-2)
Despite a rather disappointing loss to Peabody, I feel the best about Washington Marion after watching them three times last week. The one-two combo of Christian Edwards and Devantre Vitor is more than most teams can handle.
9. De La Salle (9-1)
The Cavaliers finally lost a game, but dropped one against a very tough St. Aug squad, in the finals of the Newman tournament. However, De La Salle still has three wins over Top 25 teams, so they have more than earned their top 10 ranking.
8. St. Augustine (10-1)
The Purple Knight’s have played a very tough schedule thus far, and have come out on top every game except for one, in a very surprising loss to Sophie B. Wright. However, it was back at the beginning of the season while the football team was still in the playoffs, so they are undefeated at full strength.
7. East Ascension (11-1)
After a win over St. Paul’s in the championship game of their own tournament, East Ascension now has a statement win to show that last year’s trip to the Top 28 wasn’t just a good two weeks for a young team.
