Taylor Bruninga Wins Player of the Week
Congratulations to Illini Bluffs 2017 power forward Taylor Bruninga on winning the first PrepHoopsIllinois Player of the Week for the 2016-2017 high school basketball season. Bruninga’s fans showed up in a major way! He won the voting with 48% which was 19,099 votes cast for him narrowly defeating Dwight Township’s Justin Fox with 18,159 votes.
Bruninga more than earned the award after an incredible open to the high school season. In his first game as a senior he went for 42 points and 22 rebounds against Peoria Christian. He backed it up Tuesday as they played a showcase game at the Tournament of Champions where he had 30 points. Wednesday he had 43 points. He kept it up post-Thanksgiving dropping 38 points and 16 boards on Friday followed by 33 points and 19 rebounds to close the week last Saturday.
Just video game numbers! Bruninga name was known after his play on the circuit for the Illinois Irish. He made huge jump in the rankings after backing up his spring with a strong July jumping up to the #9 power forward in the state. He shot the ball well which is his biggest asset, but what impressed us was his ability to shot fake and go around his guy along with fighting on the interior.
He is a heavily recruited prospect at the D2 level garnering multiple offers after the summer. Still doesn’t hold a D1 offer, but expect that to change soon as he is garnering quite a bit of legit buzz at both the mid-major and low-major levels.
